The coordination committee of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Wednesday condemned the ‘continued and unwarranted’ arrests of party workers in different parts of Karachi and the raid on a unit office in Shah Faisal Colony area.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the committee said law enforcers had raided the office of MQM’s Unit 106 situated in Shah Faisal Colony on Tuesday night around 9:30pm and arrested unit incharge Khalil Ahmed and a member of the unit committee Dil Muhammad.
Three other workers, Tariq, Nafis and Hanif, were also arrested in the raid and they were also beaten in public, according to the statement.
The committee members also condemned the arrest if following workers in different parts of the city. They are Circle incharge Unit 175 of North Nazimabad sector Amir Majeed, and, workers including Faizanullah Affandi and Asim Mubeen; Imran Yasin of Unit 77 and Muhammad Shakil of Unit 69 of Korangi Sector; Asim Aftab of Unit 125 of Qasba Aligarh Sector and Shahnawaz, Naqqash of Unit 112-C and Faisal Ansari of Unit 112-B.
The coordination committee also said no information was being given about the whereabouts of arrested workers which was a cause of great concern for the families.
The committee in its statement also demanded from the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Sindh governor Dr Ishratul Ebad and Sindh chief minister Qaim Ali Shah to stop the arrest of innocent MQM workers. If the workers are wanted and are involved in criminal activities, it was said, they should be present in court and tried.

Inflammatory statements
Meanwhile, reacting to a statement of Pakistan Tehreek-s-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the committee said MQM chief Altaf Hussain never called the generals of Pakistan Army cowards.
The coordination committee said Qureshi was a political leader and it did not become him to hurl baseless allegations at the MQM chief.
“Was Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s love for the Pakistani Army hibernating when the head of his own party called generals cowards?” it was asked in the statement. “Why was Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s honour not bruised when Imran Khan said generals would wet their pants if 20,000 took to the streets? Why was Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s honour not get provoked when Jamaat-e-Islami leader Munawwar Hassan and the current defence minister Khawaja Asif insulted the Pakistan Army and expressed inflammatory views?”
The committee members asked why no resolution condemning their statements was passed in any of the provincial assemblies if Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s professed love for the army were true?
They said the PTI leader might be able to move resolutions against Altaf Hussain but he will not be successful in creating fissures between the MQM and Pakistan Army.
