Karachi
The Sindh police has formed a three-member inquiry committee to probe the custodial death of Sunni Ittehad Council member, Tariq Mehboob.
As per a notification issued by the Additional IGP’s office on Monday, the committee would comprise of DIG East Muneer Ahmed Shaikh, SSP East Pir Muhammad Shah, and SSP Investigation East Zulfiqar Mahar.
The probe team has been allocated a week’s time to collate its findings and submit a report.

SIC objections
While the formation of a probe committee remains beyond doubt, the SIC’s media secretary, Shah Alam, spoke to The News about the party’s reservations over rejection of their demand for a second post-mortem of Mehboob’s body.
He claimed that City Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui had promised that the body would be re-examined, but no such efforts materialised and Mehboob was laid to rest on Monday.
The Anjuman Naujawanan-e-Islam chief and SIC member had died in his cell at the Karachi central prison on Saturday morning.
Police said that the 54-year-old Mehboob suddenly fell ill and, despite efforts by doctors, died of a cardiac arrest.
