The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Jamil Ahmed of South Range police late on Monday night suspended the SHOs of Mithadar and Docks police stations for providing fake certification of shutting down drug and gambling dens in the areas within their jurisdictions.
Talking to The News, DIG South said the office of Additional IG Karachi had issued a letter to all police ranges for shutting down all drug and gambling dens.
In this regard, he had called a meeting of police officials in the South Range and had issued strict instructions to SHOs for demolishing any gambling or drug dens in their jurisdictions. After doing so, the SHOs were also required to submit a document certifying the closure of vice dens which were duly submitted by all SHOs to his office.
However, said DIG South he had formed a team for carrying out parallel surveys of all areas under his ambit which informed him that gambling dens were still being operated within the remits of Docks and Mithadar police stations and the SHOs concerned were charging Rs5,000 per every hour.
Taking notice of this information, the dens were raided and gamblers arrested with cash. Subsequently, orders were also issued to suspend Docks and Mithadar SHOs with immediate effect.

Two bodies found
Two bodies were recovered from under the Lasbela bridge.
One of the bodies was identified as 35-year old Naeem Jan son of Qadir Buksh, who was according to police sources shot in the face.
SHO Rizvia police station, Mazhar Iqbal, the deceased was identified with the help of his CNIC; he was a resident of Jamshoro. The Jamshoro police had been contacted to ascertain whether a report regarding his disappearance had been registered, he said.
The other body, appearing to be of a 45-year-old man, however remained unidentified.
SHO Iqbal claimed the body had no visible torture or bullet marks, adding the deceased was apparently a heroin addict and died due to an overdose of the drug.

Fisherman drowns in sea
A 25-year-old fisherman, Asif Umer, drowned in the sea near the Ibrahim Hyderi area on Monday.
His body was recovered by the Pakistan Coast Guards and handed over to the family.
According to police the deceased was out fishing when he along with another friend accidentally fell in the water. The latter was, however, safely rescued.

Five rescued
Five people were rescued in an unconscious condition after a fire broke out in a building situated within the jurisdiction of the Tipu Sultan police station.
According to the Central Fire Station an office situated at the fourth floor of the building caught fire allegedly due to a blast in a gas pipeline.
Around two hours later five fire engines of the fire station and one snorkel provided by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation managed to put the fire out.
