In the wake of Saudi airstrikes in Yemen, the Anti-War Alliance comprising various parties and groups organised a protest on Saturday at the Karachi Press Club to demand immediate withdrawal of the Saudi-led coalition forces from Yemen.
The alliance which was formed after a meeting held in one of the parties’ offices had agreed upon the stance that the ongoing war had been imposed on the Yemeni people.
National Students Federation General Secretary Karachi, Kabir Ali, said, “Pakistan must uphold the rights of the Yemeni people and leave it for them to decide what political setup and leadership they deem appropriate for themselves.”
He also spoke against the regional countries taking sides in the conflict in Yemen and proposed that Pakistan play the role of a mediator.
A representative of the Irtiqa Institute, Kaleem Durrani, expressed his concern over Pakistan’s vague policy of maintaining neutrality over the Yemen issue. He was of the view that Pakistan should refrain from following an ambiguous policy in Yemen and make it clear that Pakistan denounces the war.
