A tree plantation and cleanliness week will be observed from April 22, the date on which Earth Day is celebrated annually across the world.
This was decided in meeting chaired by Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui on Sunday.
The session reviewed the arrangements for the week and chose to seek support of the private sector organisations and non-governmental organisations working for the improvement of environment.
The Sindh forest department will provide plants free of cost to the organisations taking part in the tree plantation campaign and the city administration, as well as, the district municipal bodies will coordinate and support the concerned organisations in this regard.
Siddiqui said the city was facing various environmental challenges which needed to be addressed and resolved by all concerned agencies, as well as, the citizens.
He said the better way to observe the Earth Day was to plant trees and clean your city.
The meeting was attended, among others, by the Administrator District Municipal Corporation (East) Salahuddin, officials of Sindh forest department, representatives of the Civil Aviation Authority, Southern Sui Gas Company, K-Electric, National Forum for Environment and Health and Patel Hospital.
