Six suspected Taliban terrorists were gunned down by police in a raid in Saadi Town, Sohrab Goth on Saturday.
SSP Malir Rao Anwaar said following a tip-off, a police team raided the hideout of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan terrorists and in the ensuing shootout, injured six of them while the others managed to escape.
The injured terrorists later expired at the Jinnah hospital. A sub-machine gun, four 9mm pistols and a TT pistol were found at their hideout. The official said two of the six terrorists were identified as Ahmed and Surat Khan.
Ahmed was a commander of the TTP Fazlullah group in Waziristan and had arrived in Karachi a few weeks ago for treatment after suffering injuries in a drone strike. He was wanted for carrying out bomb blasts, killing security personnel and other attacks.
Surat Khan was a close aide of slain TTP commander Abid Muchhar, and wanted by the Karachi police for killing cops, kidnappings for ransom and extortion. The official said the other four terrorists were yet to be identified. Since the start of this year, the Malir police have killed or arrested several terrorists and other criminals. The crime rate in the area has reduced significantly, target killing and kidnapping for ransom cases in particular have gone down by 50 percent.
