The Jamaat-e-Islami chief said on Friday that the culture of terrorism in politics would cease to exist from April 23, the day of the NA-246 by-polls.
Senator Siraj-ul-Haq was addressing a massive gathering of female JI activists and supporters on Shahrah-e-Pakistan in connection with the NA-246 election campaign.
Haq said MQM chief Altaf Hussain had announced his retirement from the party nine times but retracted his decision in a short while every time.
“But when the MQM chief will announce his retirement on April 23, he won’t withdraw this decision this time,” he maintained.
He said the JI leadership would revive the past glory of Karachi.
He added that after coming into power, the JI will cut down duty timings for women and empower them in the true sense.
He appealed to the youth to come forward and play their role for the prosperity of the city.
He said “external forces” through the MQM had destroyed the economy of Pakistan by destabilising Karachi.
He appealed to the business community to return to Karachi and restart their businesses.
“The JI will ensure their safety in running their businesses peacefully in the city.”
Haq said the JI would impose shariah in its true spirit and ensure the provision of due rights to women.
“The JI will also ensure modern education to the youth of the country,” he added.
Haq also said the JI would try to secure the release of Aafia Siddiqui and bring her back to Pakistan.
JI candidate for NA-246, Rashid Naseem, while addressing the gathering, said the real identity of Karachi had been destroyed in the last 28 years.
JI Sindh chief Dr Mairaj-ul-Huda Siddiqui said the historic gathering of the JI women wing had broken all past records of women’s public gatherings in Karachi.
He further said the people of Karachi would prevent poll-rigging on April 23 and defeat terrorism with the power of their votes.
JI Karachi chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said the by-polls for NA-246 would play a decisive role in the battle between the forces of good and evil.
Rehman also announced that the JI would hold a massive public gathering on April 20 in the city.
“The MQM has destroyed the health, medical, transport and education infrastructures in Karachi. It is time for its citizens to root out the culture of terrorism from Karachi on April 23 through the power of their votes,” he added.
