The Higher Education Commission has played a vital role in the development of the field of social sciences in Pakistan
Dr Syed Akbar Zaidi, a professor at Middle Eastern, South Asian and African Studies Institute, said this while delivering a lecture at the closing session of a conference on management, education and social sciences research on Monday.
The two day moot was jointly organised by the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Karachi, and Iqra University.
He said lack of quality research by scholars was the primary cause of the decline of social sciences in the 1990’s but in the 21st century, the field of social sciences has developed rapidly.
Dr Zaidi applauded the Karachi and Iqra universities for holding the conference.
The closing session was chaired by Professor Dr Arifa Farid, former dean at the faculty of social sciences in KU.
Concluding the session, Faculty of Social Science Dean Professor Dr Moonis Ahmar said that the collaboration between the public and private sector was highly commendable.
“The lack of reading culture is one of the pivotal causes of the decline of our society.”
He contended that the conference has helpful to the students in polishing their research skills.
