Two police investigation officers were suspended on Saturday for escorting two suspected criminals to a court in a rickshaw.
IGP Ghulam Hyder Jamali suspended station investigation officer inspector Saleem Naz of the Iqbal Market police and investigation officer inspector Ghulam Jabbar of the Orangi Town police after they took two men, Tayyab and Tassaduq, arrested over the charges of murder and extortion, in a rickshaw to an anti-terrorism court for obtaining their remand.
A spokesperson for the IGP said an inquiry had also been ordered against the two police officers for violating the rules and the standard operating procedure.
“The arrested men could have escaped because of the officers’ negligence causing serious embarrassment for the police force,” he added.
