United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) Executive Director Rita Bruun Akhtar on Thursday encouraged Pakistani students to avail scholarship opportunities as much as possible.
Speaking at a lecture titled ‘Educational Opportunities in USA’ organised by the Sindh Madresstul Islam University (SMIU) Rita said the USEFP awards Fulbright scholarships to students studying in various universities in Pakistan.
She added that the USEFP announces 250 scholarships for Pakistani students annually. As of the current year 150 students had been selected to study in American universities, out of which 23 belonged to the Sindh province, about 24 percent of the total selectees, she mentioned.
“Annually around 2000 students from China and 10,000 students from India avail scholarships whereas the total number of Pakistani students stands at 5000 whereas 50 percent of the scholarships are reserved for women.” Lauding SMIU Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammed Ali Shaikh’s efforts for enhancing educational standard of the institute, she said the number of students from Sindh increased due to his efforts as he also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Fulbright Scholar Programme, in Pakistan.
She stressed on the need for students to work hard and devote time to studies in order to study in good universities.
