The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation plans to establish a children’s library at the Markaz-e-Ilm-o-Saqafat, City Auditorium.
KMC Administrator Saqib Ahmed Soomro on Thursday issued directives in this regard to the senior director culture, sports and recreation.
He called for emphasis on the library’s stock and said all popular children’s books and periodicals should be available.
He said that, in the first phase, the library would have around 3,500 books and its maximum capacity of 10,000 would be achieved gradually.
“This will be the first public children’s library for the government sector and will have books in English, Urdu and Sindhi on topics including literature, art, designing, painting, poetry and many others,” said Soomro.
The KMC administrator said the hall of the Markaz-e-Ilm-o-Saqafat should be used for the purpose and said the latest facility would also include a lecture hall.
“We have also sought the private sector’s cooperation and a NGO has already pledged to donate 2,500 books,” he added.
