An anti-terrorism court on Monday awarded life imprisonment to three kidnappers and killers of a teenager.
Masoor Ali alias Mansoor, Ammar Asad and Arsalan alias Manu were awarded life-long incarceration, whereas another co-accused Sikandar Baloch was acquitted as the court found him not guilty. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 100,000 on each convict.
According to the prosecution, Sohaib Adil, son of a trader Shahid Ali, was kidnapped from the Ferozabad area on May 7, 2009. The convicts demanded rupees five million as ransom from Shahid, who paid Rs 500,000 as ransom to them. But despite that the kidnappers killed Sohaib Adil and threw his body in the ‘Lyari Naddi’.
The cases against the accused were registered at the Ferozabad police station as well as the Anti-violent Crime Cell.
The court also awarded seven years’ imprisonment to each convict for having possessed illegal arms and observed that in default of payment of fine amount, the convicts would have to face an additional imprisonment of one year.
The court declared that the three convicts would have to face rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and killing Sohaib Adil.
The three convicts were identified by two witnesses who recorded their statements and also identified them before the trial court as well. The court said that the period the convicts had spent in the jail during the trial would also be counted as a part of the total imprisonment.

Cop’s killer remanded
In another case, an alleged killer of a policeman, Muhammad Sohail, was remanded to the police on physical remand till March 2.
According to the police, Sohail, along with his absconding accomplices, had killed police constable Raja Zafar on February 6 in the Shah Faisal Colony area.
The investigation officer (IO) prayed to the court for the grant physical remand of the accused in order to conduct further interrogation and know the whereabouts of the other absconding accomplices of the detainee (Sohail). The court allowed the plea till March 2.
