The Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) during a raid in New Karachi busted a gang of vehicle lifters and arrested four of its members on Tuesday.
On receiving information regarding presence of a gang of lifters present in the area the ACLC team raided Sector-11 of New Karachi.
According to officials an encounter ensued after the lifters opened fire on the personnel.
The operation led to arrests of Khadim Hussain, Chaudhry Akram, Mohammed Shahzad and Abdul Rasheed.
ACLC Chief Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Irfan Ali Bahadur said the team was formed to curb the menace of car lifting from the city.
He said the arrested criminals were involved in theft cases across the province and were active in areas including Gulistan-e-Jauhar, PECHS, Bahadurabad, North Nazimabad and New Karachi in the metropolis.
Accused Hussain was said to be a purchaser of lifted vehicles and hailed from Shikarpur, Sindh.
He further added Chaudhry Akram said to be the leader of the gang used to snatch vehicles usually in the evening from the above mentioned areas and dump them in nearby places.
He would later on replace the number plates with official government license plates and transport them to Shikarpur.
The SSP said arrangement for the arrest of another member of the gang Rasool Bux Brohi, currently claimed to be in Shikarpur, had also been completed.
They were taken to the ACLC headquarters for interrogation. Weapons and four snatched vehicles were recovered from their hideouts.
