The US Consul General in Karachi Brian Heath on Saturday welcomed 400 new students who entered the US State Department’s English Access Microscholarship Programme.
In his welcome address, he said there were more than 1,200 access students in Karachi who were being given an opportunity to learn English and change their futures.
He said the programme would produce students who would have developed their language, leadership and critical thinking skills.
In the two-year access programme, said Heath, students will have the opportunity to participate in many community and character-building activities ranging from service projects to public speaking workshops.
Since its inception in 2004, he said, more than 100,000 students in more than 85 countries had participated in the access programme which helped students become proficient in English language from beginners to intermediate level.
