Sixteen more cases of dengue fever were reported in the city on Monday, increasing the number of dengue patients to 708 this year, said the Sindh Dengue Surveillance Cell.
The focal person for the cell, Dr M Shakeel Aamir Mullick, said a total of 728 dengue cases had been reported in the province so far this year.According to the cell’s report, of the 17 patients who tested positive for dengue in the province on Monday, 15 were inpatients and two were provided treatment in the outpatient departments.
Fourteen dengue patients are still admitted in different hospitals across the city and 19 were discharged after treatment.Six patients have died of the disease so far this year: Ameen, 68, a resident of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, passed away at a hospital on July 24.
Nauman, 22, a resident of New Karachi, breathed his last on July 22. Dil Afroz, 22, died of the virus on July 15.Another young patient named Zubair succumbed to the fever on July 2. Farhan, 34, and Aliya, 20, lost their lives to dengue in June.
