Ten people including a child were killed and several others injured in accidents in the city, police and rescue services said on Saturday.

 

Two people, including a security guard of Shia Ulema Council leader Shahenshah Hussain Naqvi and his driver were killed and seven others injured when the religious scholar’s Prado jeep collided with a Suzuki van on Super Highway.

 

Gadap City police said Naqvi was heading towards rural Sindh with his guards and driver when his Prado jeep No LEJ 9019 collided with a Suzuki van No LAB-9392.

 

A security guard, 35-year-old Imran, and his driver, 34-year-old Iftikhar Kazmi, were killed in the accident. The Shia scholar, his police guard, Arshad Hussain, and an unidentified man also suffered injuries.

 

The four people travelling in the Suzuki van were also injured and taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Naqvi and his police guard are being treated at a private hospital.

 

In another accident, a speedy coaster No JE 3760 overturned while trying to overtake another vehicle near Ghaghar Pathak on National Highway. Edhi and Chippa ambulances rushed the injured to the 100-bed Pakistan Steel hospital where a 10-year old unidentified child and 45-year-old Muhammad Hashim expired.

 

Twenty-three other people suffered injuries in the accident including Ibrahim, Abdus Sattar, Ramzan, Tasleem, Humera, Muhammad Ali, Hawa Bibi, Hajra, Shaukat, Aneesa, Rukhsana, Nazir, Sanaullah, Saleem and Muhammad Aslam. They were shifted to the JPMC for further treatment.

 

JPMC Deputy Executive Director Dr Seemin Jamali confirmed that two bodies and 23 injured people were brought to the hospital.

 

Fall accidents

 

An unidentified elderly man, a resident of Ali Goth in Ibrahim Hyderi, died when he slipped off a hill and his head struck some rocks. His body was shifted to the JPMC. Police said the man lived in a hut on the hill.

 

In another incident, a 35-year-old man identified as Kamlesh died after falling off the 9th floor of the Sidco Centre. His body was shifted to the JPMC. Police said they were investigating the case.

 

Another person died on Super Highway near Jeddah Hotel when a tyre burst at shop shooting shrapnel towards a man. Forty-five-year-old Dilawar was struck on the head and he expired. His body was shifted to the JPMC where his family took it away before an autopsy could be conducted.

 

A 50-year-old man, Fayyaz, died after falling off a building in Azizabad. His body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

 

Man drowns

 

Another elderly person, identified as 75-year-old Muhammad Hussain slipped into the lake in Safari Park and drowned.

 

The body was fished out and shifted to the JPMC. Police said Muhammad Hussain was a resident of Quetta and was feeding ducks at the lake when he slipped.

 

Separately, a 45-year-old man, Siddique, was electrocuted to death in Saddar.
