Protection and conservation of mangroves bear immense importance and communities living in coastal areas must be approached for creating awareness among them, said caretaker Chief Minister Sindh Justice (retd) Zahid Kurban Alavi on Thursday.

Addressing a programme organised by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and the Mangroves For Future, he said Sindh possesses one of the largest mangrove forests in the world which plays a role of shield against tsunamis, cyclones and other natural calamities. “It is the need of the hour to take urgent steps not only to protect the existing mangrove forests but also to ensure their maximum growth,” he said. He stressed the need for providing alternate energy to the people.
