The Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) announced on Friday to formally start its election campaign by holding its first public meeting at Nishtar Park on April 21 (Sunday).

Addressing a press conference at the party office here, Secretary General MWM Allama Sajid Raza Taqvi said that all the party’s candidates contesting for national and provincial assembly seats would be present at the public meeting which would prove to be its show of strength. He urged the people to vote for the MWM candidates having the election symbol of tent.

Lashing out at the caretaker government, he said that it has not taken any measures to protect the lives of the citizens, adding that a sense of insecurity was prevailing among the candidates to go to the masses and launch election campaign.

He said that various parties have already expressed their concern over the target killing of some candidates and demanded that those contesting elections should be allowed to carry licensed weapons with them for security purpose.

Allama Sajid Raza said that the MWM was contesting elections independently for the first time in the country’s history and called upon the people to vote for the party candidates in order to block the way of corrupt elements reaching the power corridors. He said that if MWM came to power it would expose all the corrupt rulers and bring back the looted wealth for using the same for the welfare of the masses.

Replying to a question, he said that there could be seat adjustment with other parties but at the moment the MWM has not taken any decision in this regard.
