Nine armed suspects were apprehended as Rangers’ personnel foiled an attempt to target a polio vaccination team in the Sultanabad area on Tuesday.

 

The troops also raided five different areas in the city and rounded up 30 suspects and recovered arms from them.

 

Rangers’ personnel were deployed in the Sultanabad area in the Jackson police remits for the security of a polio team immunising children of the crippling disease when they heard some gunshots, said a spokesman.

 

Some armed men were trying to scare the polio team by opening aerial fire, but the personnel moved to their rescue.

 

After an encounter and much resistance, the troops apprehended nine suspects, Bilal Ahmed, Afzal Khan, Jahangir Khan, Waqar ud Din, Aftab, Mohammed Nawaz, Riaz Shah, Syed Ahmed and Jan Afzal. They also found weapons on them.

 

Besides these arrests, the troops also conducted targeted operations in New Sabzi Mandi, Juma Goth-Malir, City Railway Colony, Hazara Colony, Khadda Market-Lyari, Usmanabad, Kharadar, Old Golimar area and Mominabad Malik Chowk.

 

They detained 30 notorious criminals, including target killers affiliated with the gang war and different political parties, while 69 weapons of different calibers, including Sub-Machine Guns, rifles, shotguns, pistols, grenades and mixed ammunition were also recovered.

 

Moreover, the officials also raided the Lines area and removed six illegal barriers.

 

On Friday, 15 suspected gangsters wanted by the police in a number of target killing and extortion cases were detained by Rangers in a raid in Mehmoodabad.

 

The law enforcers also seized a huge quantity of weapons and drugs.

 

A police team of South Range raided the Lyari Town late Thursday night and arrested 20 suspects, including some wanted criminals, and also recovered arms from their possession.
