A twenty-year-old girl committed suicide over her parents’ refusal to get her married to her lover, said Zaman Town police on Wednesday.

Tabeeta, daughter of Yaqoob Mashi, following an altercation with her parents locked herself in a room and hanged herself to death from a ceiling fan.

The mother of Tabeeta knocked on her door after a few hours, but when no response came she called her husband, who broke open the door only to find the body of their daughter hanging.

They informed the police, who shifted the body to the JPMC for a post-mortem.

According to the police, the girl had fallen in love with a boy but when her parents did not agree to their marriage she got disheartened and ended her life.
