Five people, including a Pakistan People’s Party Shaheed Bhutto (PPP-SB) supporter, were killed in the city, police said on Sunday.
The PPP-SB supporter, 45-year-old Shafi Mohammad, was gunned down near Nishan-e-Haider Chowk in Pakistan Bazaar.
The area’s SHO, Ghulam Nabi Afridi, said Shafi, who sold goats, had arrived at the cattle market in Pakistan Bazaar in the afternoon, when two men on a motorcycle opened fire on him. He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The victim had suffered a single bullet wound to his head. He was a resident of Manghopir.
Store owner murdered
The owner of a general store was murdered and his brother injured near Alliance Arcade in Block-15 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar on Saturday night
Sharea Faisal SHO Bashir Khan said Mohammad Ahmed Siddiqui and his brother Shams had shut down their general store located near Jauhar Chowrangi, and were heading towards their home in Block-17, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, when two men on a motorcycle shot them. They were rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where Ahmed succumbed to his injuries.
Ahmed had suffered three bullet wounds to his upper torso. Shams was shot in the hands and legs. The police found 9mm pistol bullet casings at the crime scene.
Police investigators said Ahmed was receiving death threats from a group of extortionists.
Man killed on Jehangir Road
A man was gunned down on Jehangir Road on Saturday night. Jamshed Quarters SHO Khushnood Jawed said the body was shifted to the JPMC and a message aired about it on the police control system. Police found 9mm pistol bullet casings at the murder scene. On Sunday morning, a family approached the police and identified the victim as Mohammad Asif, a resident of Ram Swami.
The family said Asif had left home on Saturday night, but did not return. The police believe Asif was kidnapped and later murdered.
Two bodies found
The bullet-riddled body of a man was found near Moosa Lane. The area’s SHO, Haji Sanaullah, said the body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi. The body bore torture marks. The identity of the victim could not be ascertained till the time this report was filed.
Another body was found near Filmistan Cinema in Gulbahar in the morning. The victim was tortured and later shot dead. Police said the victim could not be identified yet.
