A World Health Organisation (WHO) representative, Dr Elias Durry, on Monday told The News that the polio eradication campaign in Sindh had been postponed due to rains. “It has not been cancelled. It has only been postponed due to rains,” he said. Asked if it will resume after monsoons, Durry affirmatively remarked: “Of course! Of course!”

Another source in the WHO reiterated the government had taken the decision due to rains and not on any other grounds. The source also pointed out that the campaign was temporarily suspended earlier in UC-4, Gadap Town, after a WHO official was shot at in the UC-4 by unscrupulous elements. Innocent people since long have been brainwashed by extremist elements that polio drops cause infertility. As a matter of fact, the parents who deny these drops to their children only put their offspring’s life in danger.
