Six people, including an activist each of the Sunni Tehreek (ST), the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and the People’s Aman Committee (PAC), were killed in the city, police said on Tuesday.

 

ST activist 25-year-old Mohammad Adnan Ansari and 50-year-old Maulana Mohammed Saleem Abbas Naqshbandi, a leader of the party, were attacked in the wee hours of the day in Sector-4A of Landhi near Charagh Hotel.

 

Sub-Divisional Police Officer Mirza Abdul Majeed of the Landhi Division told The News that after delivering a sermon at Alamgir Masjid in Landhi, Naqshbandi was heading towards his house along with his nephew, Ansari, when two men on a motorcycle opened fire on them.

 

The two men were rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where Ansari succumbed to his injuries while Naqshbandi managed to survive.

 

Ansari suffered four bullet wounds on his upper torso. Naqshbandi was shot twice, but he was in a stable condition by the time this report was filed. The police found empty 9mm pistol bullet shells at the crime scene.

 

Following the attack, tension gripped the area when some men fired gunshots in the air and forcibly shut down shops.

 

MQM activist slain

 

Mohammad Ali, a joint unit in-charge of the MQM, was murdered at the Compressor Market in Lines Area in the afternoon.

 

Sub-Divisional Police Officer Ghulam Murtaza Tabassum of the Ferozabad Division said the victim, who owned a compressor shop, was sitting outside his home located inside the market, when two men on a motorcycle sprayed him with bullets.

 

He was taken to the JPMC, where he was pronounced dead. The deceased suffered four bullet wounds on his upper torso. The police found empty 30-bore pistol shells at the murder scene.

 

Afterwards, some men created panic in the area by firing gunshots in the air and forcing shopkeepers to pull down their shutters.

 

MQM leaders and activists reached the JPMC, where they staged a protest demanded the arrest of Ali’s killers.

 

PAC activist targeted

 

Nasir alias Nasir Kana, a PAC activist, was shot dead and four others injured in the wee hours of the day in Mansehra Colony, Allahdad Goth.

 

Sharafi Goth SHO Ijaz Khokhar said Nasir was pronounced dead at the JPMC, while Arsalan, Siraj, Riaz and an unidentified man had survived their injuries.

 

Preliminary investigations revealed that Nasir was present outside his home, when two men on a motorcycle fired gunshots at him and also injured the four men accompanying him.

 

The deceased suffered multiple bullet wounds. The police found empty 9mm pistol bullet shells at the spot.

 

SBP employee killed

 

An employee of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), 50-year-old Syed Khadim Hussain Shah, was gunned down in Shershah.

 

The area’s SHO, Mohammed Nawaz said the victim, a resident of Shershah Colony, had left home for work in the morning when two men on a motorcycle shot him at Jinnah Road. An 11-year-old girl, Naila, who was present nearby, also suffered a bullet wound.

 

They were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH), where Syed Khadim Hussain Shah expired, while the girl survived.

 

The deceased suffered two bullet wounds on his upper torso. The police found 9mm pistol bullet shells at the crime scene.

 

Investigators said the murder appeared to be sectarian in nature, but other angles would also be probed.

 

Two bodies found

 

The body of a woman in her 30s was found in bushes near Malook Hotel in Sohrab Goth.

 

The body was shifted to the ASH, where the medico-legal officer (MLO) said the victim was murdered around two days ago. She said the body bore torture marks and the victim was strangled to death.

 

Separately, the body of a man in his mid-20s was found near the Northern Bypass in Surjani Town.

 

The body was taken to the ASH. The MLO said the victim was brutally tortured before being murdered.
