Thousands of employees of District Municipal Corporations (DMCs) and the Karachi Development Authority will stage protest demonstrations and sit-ins today (Tuesday) against the non-payment of last month’s salaries.

According to representatives of these workers, due to the continuous stubborn attitude of the provincial finance department, the grant for local bodies institutes could not be released which has deepened the prevailing financial crisis.

A joint meeting of the representatives of a few noted unions was held under the supervision of the chairman of the Municipal Workers Trade Union Alliance, Syed Zulfikar Shah. The participants of the meeting lamented they were still not paid for the month the June while the month of July was about to end. They said around 35,000 local bodies’ employees of Karachi and more than 3,000 pensioners were not paid their last month’s remuneration.
