An activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement and two policemen were gunned down in different parts of the city late Monday night.

 

Police Inspector Fazal Mehmood was fired upon and seriously injured near Khidmat Hospital in Orangi Town No-5 late Monday night. He was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) where he expired during treatment.

 

According to Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rustam Nawaz, deceased Fazal Mehmood was residing in the same area and he had left his home to offer Isha prayers and Taraveeh at the area mosque, when two bike riders appeared there and sprayed him with bullets at the mosque’s gate.

 

Inspector Mehmood received five bullet wounds on his upper torso, as the police seized empty casings of 9mm pistol from the spot. SDPO Nawaz termed the murder of Inspector Mehmood a part of target killing, saying that the martyred officer was posted as SHO at Manghopir, Model Colony, Malir Cantt and other police stations and presently he was deputed at Malir Headquarters.

 

The bullet-riddled body of Constable Faisal Razzaq stuffed in a gunny bag was found from main Dhobi Ghath Road in Garden police limits. It was shifted to CHK for postmortem. Constable Faisal was posted at Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC).

 

SHO Athar Malik of Garden police station said that Faisal had left his home for duty in the morning when unidentified criminals kidnapped him, tortured him to death and threw his body in the area.

 

The deceased received a single bullet on his head. He was a resident of Chakiwara Police Line and his murder was also described as target killing.Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) activist Abdul Waheed was fired upon and seriously injured in Doli Khata in Nabi Bux police area late Monday night. SDPO Mufakir Adeel of Garden Division said that the victim was first taken to CHK and later moved to ASH where he was pronounced dead. Waheed was a resident of PIB Colony and the joint unit incharge of MQM in the area.

 

He had left home for some work in Garden area in the night when four men, riding motorcycles, targeted him near Dholi Khata area.

 

The deceased received four bullet wounds on his upper torso which became the cause of his death. The police seized empty shells of pistol from the crime scene. Police described Waheed’s murder as a part of target killing. Later, the party leadership and activists reached the hospital where they lodged a protest, demanding immediate arrest of the culprits. Police were investigating the matter.

 

Also late on Monday night, the tortured and bullet-riddled body of an unidentified man was found from the Kalri police remits. SHO Safdar Mashwani said that the body was found near a garbage dump on the Ahmed Shah Bukhari Road

 

The body was later moved to the CHK for a postmortem. He added that the deceased was kidnapped by unknown criminals from another area. He added that the victim was brutally tortured and shot before his body was thrown in the Kalri police jurisdiction.

 

PAC member shot dead

 

A member of the banned People’s Aman Committee (PAC) was gunned down in Kalakot police remits on Monday evening.According to SHO Chand Khan Niazi, two unidentified bike riders shot dead Qasim Baloch outside his house in Jumma Shah plot area. His body was moved to Civil Hospital for autopsy.The deceased received eight bullet wounds on various parts of his body that caused his instant death. The police seized empty shells of pistol from the scene for forensic test. Police said that Qasim Baloch was a member of the banned PAC and his murder was a part of target killing.
