Personnel of the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) and the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) recovered a kidnapped TV actor and apprehended one of his captives in an injured condition on Thursday.


On March 21, 30-year-old Hassan Ahmed, a TV actor, was kidnapped by unidentified armed men in the Darakhshan police limits, police said. A FIR was lodged and the investigation was then transferred to the AVCC and CPLC.


The suspects had demanded Rs20 million for Ahmed’s release, however the ransom was later brought down to Rs1 million. The suspects had planned for the money to be handed over in the Mehmoodabad area.


AVCC and CPLC personnel were present at the designated location to recover Ahmed, however the suspects, upon seeing the police officials, panicked and opened fire. After an encounter, police arrested Mohammad Javed in an injured condition. Javed’s companion was able to flee under the cover of fire.


During interrogations, the accused revealed that Hassan and the rest of the kidnappers were in a hide-out near Shara-e-Faisal. Police raided the hide-out, where they were recovered Hassan Ahmed after an encounter with the remaining kidnappers. However, the kidnappers were able to flee during the encounter.


CPLC Chief Ahmed Chinoy said the leader of the accused is one Aga Mansoor, a former Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) in Sindh Police who had been arrested for cases of kidnapping for ransom and car lifting.
