KARACHI: Industry people should challenge government officials if they did not fulfil their promises regarding development, said Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, Commissioner Karachi, while addressing office bearers and members of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) on Wednesday.
Several development works have started in KATI, he said, adding that the greenbelt adjacent to Jam Sadiq Bridge would be restored and action would be taken against ‘chhapra’ hotels.
The commissioner said that operation against illegal hydrants had been successful with the support of law enforcement agencies, but it should be visible in the shape of water availability for industries.
KATI President Rashid Ahmed Siddiqui welcomed the commissioner and said that the business community of the city was disappointed with the political parties, but the commissioner’s role was laudable.
Faraz ur Rehman, Chairman Standing Committee City Administration Liaison, said KATI was the biggest industrial area of the country, spread over 8,500 acres, and providing Rs300 million in taxes on a daily basis to the national kitty.
