LAHORE: The worldÕs first postgraduate diploma in the halal industry will be launched in Pakistan on November 1, 2012. CEO Halal Research Council Mr Muhammad Zubair Mughal said it will be an eight-month diploma comprising four modules. Each module is to consist of two courses. In the first module, concepts of halal and general guidance about halal food will be taught; the second module will deal with the role of food ingredients and halal slaughtering; the third module will deal with halal banking and the potential of the halal industry worldwide; and the fourth will address halal standardisation and the potential of the halal industry in developed areas.
Mughal said that the diploma is based on state-of-the-art technology. Students will be able to log into their accounts online and benefit from lessons, assignments, live chat with tutors and online examinations.
He further said that it took one year to design this diploma; and it is the product of the efforts of food technologists, ShariÕah experts, agricultural scientists and Islamic banking experts. Mughal further said that this diploma would give Muslims more knowledge about halal food and would help promote the halal industry. The latter is flourishing and is now valued at $2.3 trillion.
