Young artists for peace display artwork at Sindh Museum

HYDERABAD: A two-day unique exhibition, focusing on peace and harmony against war and extremism, began here on Sunday and attracted a large number of art-loving folk to the Sindh Museum, Hyderabad. The artists, mostly young students hailing from different institutes and individuals, depicted the theme of peace and displayed their artwork at the exhibition.
The young artists for peace include Nadeem Gohar, Agha Mubashar, Falak Naz, Maryam Urooj, Abdullah Husain, Rabia Sehar, Armaan, Ghulam Murtaza, Shahriar, Amir Ali and Vinesa.
The artists were also present there to explain their symbols of peace and looking optimistic to see the peace. The exhibition was organised by a non-governmental Sindh Community Foundation (SCF), in collaboration with the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations (UNAOC).
The artists mostly depicted war and its destruction everywhere in the world and explained that there is a need to save these butterflies and smiling faces of newborn babies, which may be a ray of hope for the society in Pakistan. Minor children were depicted, tracing butterflies, reminding the visitors to recall their childhood, which now is seen under threats of intolerance and extremism of different kinds.
Earlier, similar artwork was displayed in Quetta, Balochistan and Multan in Punjab where the same theme was covered by artists there to show their will to promote peace through their pen, brush and matching colours.
This process of interaction within artists a network of brilliant artists was announced quite recently, representing the entire country.
The organisation has already organised training workshop for artists through Pakistan, from Quetta, Peshawar, Multan, Faisalabad, Karachi and Hyderabad, in which the participants shared their understanding about the status of peace and threats to it and efforts by artists to protect peace.
The mega event for these artists is being planned in Karachi where young artists for peace will participate and showcase their artwork further.
The artwork displayed at exhibition here was divided in three categories, including creative art, photography, and posters all created and designed by young artists.
Javed Hussain, executive director SCF said they are working on peace harmony with young artists. According to him, this exhibition has been organised in three cities, including Quetta, Multan and Hyderabad, which earned a hope for the art-loving people and contributed a lot to peace- building efforts.
In fact each and every artist is envoy to his region to show his will through his artwork for promoting peace. He said now “when we see increasing sentiments to promote extremism and intolerance all around, this effort may contribute to avoid any mishap in the society.”
He said, specifically Sindh province is home to several sufi saints and poets, who preached for peace long ago and they are still attractive places for larger segments of society. In fact, these people can be found in all the provinces, who also contributed a lot for the same cause. This effort to mobilise artists from all the country places to a single platform to work together for peace, which is need of all the provinces and society segments. He linked the hope that their organisation will lead the world youth sooner or later because of their network of artists, creative writers, poets and musicians, who are working for the same cause and moving on the same path leading to peace in the world in general and Pakistan in particular.
