Hindu council team meets Zafarul Haq

ISLAMABAD: An eight-member delegation of Pakistan Hindu Council (PHC) Wednesday called on Leader of the House in Senate Raja Zafarul Haq and informed him about the upcoming interfaith conference in February.
The meeting was held here at the Parliament House. The delegation was headed by patron-in-chief of the council and MNA Dr Ashok Kumar. Zafarul Haq said that the conference in February, which would be happening at the same time when world international interfaith week was celebrated, would be a tool to streamline our directions towards peace, betterment and human integrity.
The interfaith conference due in February will host representation from all sects of religions in Pakistan to develop and achieve common objectives of peace and human development.Leader of the House in Senate was also extended an invitation to prime minister and himself to attend the conference and the combined marriage event of 100 Hindu couples in January.
The delegation submitted a demand of declaring holidays on Hindu festivals of Diwali and Holi terming it their sacred days. Zafarul Haq promised to convey the proposal to the prime minister.
Minority rights were also discussed in the meeting and the responsibilities of the federal and provincial government in post-devolution scenario were discussed. The members of the delegation told that consensus has been reached on Hindu marriage law and Zafarul Haq promised full support from the government regarding this law.
