ISLAMABAD: After intense deliberations, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has conveyed to the government that it may soon remove one of its senior officers holding a key post because the vibes from the departments he has served earlier are not encouraging, The News has learnt on good authority.
Well-placed sources in the NAB disclosed that a senior official of the bureau who was appointed on the advice of chairman NAB by the President of Pakistan was most likely to be removed and the chairman was all set to move a summary to the president to sack him.
The government has been conveyed about the development and it has also informally nodded the move. The said official will be removed because his past was neither known to the chairman NAB nor to the top politicians of the government and after his appointment vibes coming in from the departments which the said officer has served were not encouraging for an officer to hold a key position in a corruption watchdog therefore it has been decided to remove the official to save the bureau from any possible embarrassment.
The sources said the bureau was on an important mission to cleanse the society of corruption and was arresting accused persons on a daily basis and it could not afford to have any senior official who becomes embarrassment for the corruption watchdog.
The sources further disclosed that chairman NAB had adopted zero corruption-mode in the bureau as well as in NAB’s operations country-wide that is the reason some high-profile cases have landed in the NAB Sindh including many sitting ministers.
“It is most likely that some high-profile arrests are also made in the next few months because cases at complaint verification and inquiry levels are maturing into investigations”, said the sources.
Since August this year, the NAB has initiated over 100 probes most of which involve high-profile personalities especially from Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In the next phase, the bureau will tighten noose around corrupt people in Punjab, the sources added. Talking to this correspondent, a senior official said NAB reports to the president and that is the reason the chairman will move the summary of removal of the senior official to the president.
