One killed in Kohlu landmine blast
QUETTA: A man was killed in a landmine blast in Kohlu on Wednesday. Levies Force said unknown men had planted a landmine in Kohlu area, which went off when a passer-by was passing through the area. As a result of the blast, one man sustained critical wounds which caused his instant death, Levies official said. The body of the deceased was shifted to hospital for autopsy. The law enforcement personnel have cordoned off the entire area to trace out the suspects. Further probe was underway.

Two persons killed in Kohat
KOHAT: A sweets shop owner was shot dead at Dara Adam Khel area on Wednesday. According to police, unknown criminals shot dead a sweets shop owner when he was sitting at the shop in Darra Adam Khel. The killers, after committing crime, managed to escape. Reason behind the murder could not be ascertained. A case against unknown killers has been registered. Meanwhile, at Sheraki Ghafar Mela area of Dara Adam Khel a man Umer Zeb allegedly shot dead his real father Badshah Khan and managed to escape from the scene.

Govt asked to arrest killers of slain journalist

HANGU: The journalists here on Wednesday staged protest against the killing of tribal journalist Zaman Mahsud and asked the government to nab the killers. Led by Orakzai Press Club President Saleh Din Orakzai, Tribal Union of Journalists Senior Vice President Shaheed Khan Orakzai and others, the protesting journalists gathered outside the press club. Speaking on the occasion, they said that unidentified gunmen had killed Zaman in Tank district on Tuesday. He was punished for speaking the truth and unveiling the facts, they said.They asked the government to arrest the killers or else they would launch a protest campaign.

JI leader seeks special package for quake victims

CHITRAL: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) provincial chief Mushtaq Ahmad Khan on Wednesday urged the government to announce special package for the earthquake affectees. Talking to reporters here, he said the affectees suffered huge financial losses and many of them were rendered homeless. He said the earthquake caused widespread damages in the province.
He termed the compensation announced by the federal government insufficient and urged it to increase the amount for those whose houses had been damaged in the earthquake to Rs1 million. He also urged the government to wave off the utility bills and provide wheat to the earthquake affectees and other petroleum products on subsidized rate. He said the JI had already announced Rs200 million for earthquake affectees and would continue its assistance till rehabilitation of the affectees.

Special persons condemn govt’s attitude

SUKKUR: Special persons at a consultative meeting said that the government had been treating them as if they were dead.They said that they had been deprived of fundamental rights and said that the government had been treating them as if they were dead.They said that there were no proper sanitation and drainage facilities even for the physically fit community so one could only imagine how difficult the situation was for the special persons.They said there were no toilets specifically for the special persons in the workplaces, not even for those in government offices.

Mercury plummets in Swat after snowfall

MINGORA: The snowfall blanketed the mountains in Swat district on Wednesday, bringing the mercury further down. The intermittent rain continued also to lash parts of the district on Wednesday. The mountains in Malam Jabba, Gabral, Mataltan, Madyan, Bahrain, Miandam, Kalam and Oshu received snowfall while the plain areas received rain. The temperature plummeted in Swat after the rain and snowfall, compounding the hardships of the earthquake affectees living in tents. The affectees complained of non-provision of relief items and items of daily use. They said that the government had only provided a single tent to each affected family which is not enough to cope with the chilly weather. Meanwhile, the land sliding blocked the Mingora-Kalam road for traffic at various points. The local people and tourists have been stranded in Kalam valley due to blockade of the road.

Quake victims in Swat get compensation

MINGORA: The provincial government on Wednesday distributed compensation cheques among the earthquake affectees in Swat district. Senior Minister Inayatullah Khan distributed the compensation cheques among those whose houses had been destroyed in the earthquake in a function held at the office of the deputy commissioner Swat here. Deputy Commissioner Mehmood Aslam Wazir and Colonel Yasir Ali of the Pakistan Army were also present on the occasion. About five affected persons, whose houses had been destroyed in the recent tremor, were given Rs200,000 cheques each. Speaking on the occasion, Inayatullah Khan, who also holds the portfolio of the Local Government, said that the provincial government would left no stone unturned in rehabilitation of the affectees. He directed the district administration to complete the damages assessment survey in the minimum possible time to ensure early provision of compensation to the affectees. Mehmood Aslam said that the heirs of 34 persons killed in the earthquake related incidents and other 81 injured persons had been compensated so far.
KP MPA wants FIR lodged against officials

PESHAWAR: A member of the provincial assembly (MPA) from Peshawar Yasin Khalil has submitted an application at the Tehkal Police Station for lodging an FIR against senior officials of the health and sanitation departments over the death of a young boy due to dengue fever. Yasin Khalil, in his application, said that the officials mentioned should be charged in the FIR and a proper inquiry be carried out against them. He added that he had requested all the concerned officials for fumigation and proper treatment of a boy named Aimal. However, the boy died the other day. The officials of the Tehkal Police Station have forwarded the case to the senior officials who will decide whether or not to lodge an FIR against the mentioned officials.

NAB arrests fraud accused

PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Wednesday arrested an accused who allegedly deprived public of their money by luring them into investing in a fake mudaraba business. A NAB statement claimed the accused not only stopped paying profits after few months but also refused to return their money and disappeared. He has deprived the investors of Rs10.00 million. The NAB asked people to submit their claims with relevant documents to NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, PDA Complex, Block-III, Phase-V, Hayatabad Peshawar without any delay.
147 POs held in Nowshera: DPO

NOWSHERA: The police arrested 147 proclaimed offenders (POs) and seized weapons and narcotics from them during action against outlaws in the district. Speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday, District Police Officer (DPO) Rabnawaz Khan said that the police launched search operation against the outlaws and arrested 147 POs. Seven pistols, 13 kilograms of hashish and eight bottles of liquor were also recovered from them, he added. The official said that the held persons were involved in crimes of heinous nature including murders and robberies.

Eight soldiers injured in accident

KOHAT: Eight soldiers sustained injuries when a vehicle of the security forces overturned in Darra Adamkhel, official sources said on Wednesday. They said the vehicle of the security forces skidded off the road and overturned during a routine patrolling in Akhorwal area Darra Adamkhel. As a result, eight soldiers were injured. They said the injured were shifted to the CMH in Peshawar where their condition was stated to be stable.

Huge cache of arms seized in Sadda

SADDA: The political administration and security forces seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition at the Chapri Checkpost, officials said on Wednesday. Talking to reporters, Wing Commander Thall Scouts Col Rashid and Assistant Political Agent, lower Kurram Agency, Fazal Qadir said that Kurram Levies force and Frontier Corps soldiers stopped a van at the Chapri checkpost and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition. The arms included 10 Kalashnikov rifles, 101 pistols and explosive materials.

No casualty in Peshawar grenade attack

PESHAWAR: No casualty was reported in a hand-grenade attack on a flourmill in the limits of the Chamkani Police Station on Wednesday. The police said unidentified attackers lobbed the device inside the Lucky Star Flourmills owned by one Mairaj in Rano Garhai area but it did not go off. A case has been registered against unknown attackers.
