ISLAMABAD: The Administration of Razmak Cadet College (RCC), located in North Waziristan Agency (NWA), has decided to re-open the educational institution from October 2, 2015. However, parents are demanding an assurance of foolproof safety and security of their children.
As a result of military operation against militants and returning of normalcy in the area, it was decided by administration of Razmak Cadet College to reopen the educational institution for resuming academic and other activities at their own premises.
Earlier, this college was shifted to Nowshera Cantonment when law and order situation was not ripe in Razmak. But the worried parents are inquiring as to who would take the responsibility of assuring safety and security of around 500 children studying in this institution.
Once a student of this institution, Lt Col (R) Tahir Qayum took over as principal of the college a few years back and took crucial steps for the betterment of students, as he was the one who decided to shift the college when the security situation was not ripe in the area. He took pains to shift the students by accommodating them at the safe place.
This correspondent made efforts to contact the principal on his mobile but it was found switched off in the last two days.
The parents are inquiring whether the administration including the Principal was shifting his family and children to the Razmak Cadet College in order to give them sense of security or only their kids would be shifted to the original premises.
Some parents stated that the decision has been taken by the higher authorities without taking the parents on board. A group of parents gathered in Peshawar to agitate against, what they called, the wrong decision taken by the competent authority.
They were of the view that the students had already availed three months’ summer vacation during the current academic year and will again not going back to the college due to heavy snowfall, adding that the college will be closed in 1st week of November till mid-March 2016. The law and order situation in that area is still not in favour of students as nobody is safe in Peshawar then how can it be expected that students will be safe in North Waziristan Agency (NWA).
In spite of the all-out operation, the parents were not convinced over the shifting of students. In these circumstances the competent authority is requested to review their decision and postpone shifting till start of the new academic session i.e. April 2016 to avoid any mishap so that students can concentrate on their studies.
Secondly, parents desire that responsibility should be fixed on someone that in case of any incident he would be answerable to the parents.
This college earned good reputation due to hard work of the teachers and the taught since its inception. However the result of recently declared SSC and HSS examinations by the FBISE, has brought down the ranking of the college attained so painfully.
Students were left in the lurch by the teaching staff at the prime time of their studies. More than twenty students failed and only four students got A-1 grade in matriculation exam and almost similar is the result in intermediate examination.
The kidnapping of the students in Baka Khel (Bannu) on 4th June 2009 was the main impact on the dismal result. Now there is need for taking remedial measures to avoid any unpleasant situation and the glory of the college is revived.
