KARACHI: The Sindh government found no other option but to surrender under the pressure of the actions taken by the NAB and FIA against rampant corruption in the province.
It stepped back by annulling its corruption-related orders.
Shahzeb Khanzada noted this in an analysis of prevailing situation in his Geo News programme ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath’ on Thursday.
It had become a tradition that government lands were grabbed and could not be evacuated from possessors but the decisions allowing the grabbing through government orders were also being reverted. The unnerved Karachi Development Authority (KDA), in an effort to avoid further arrests, had straightened its affairs. The KDA’s record relating to sale of numerous plots twice or thrice, had already been confiscated, frozen and original owners had been asked to contact KDA.
Shahzeb Khanzada said Geo News also had a list of 48 such plots, which were either playgrounds or the lands of the provincial ministry of information. One of such playgrounds was sold for Rs2.5 million on the instructions of former director land Najmuz Zaman.
There are several such plots given in this illegitimate manner in Clifton, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
Speaking in the programme, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said a final draft was prepared after the talks with the MQM. It was decided during the meeting to form a committee to address reservations of the MQM. It was also decided to give the draft a final shape and held a joint press conference today (Thursday), but it appeared that someone sabotaged the whole plan.
“The decision the MQM has taken today is surprising for me and Maulana Fazlur Rahman. The MQM, for the first time placed its demand to lift ban on Altaf Hussain’s telephonic addresses and also sought permission for its Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation for collecting animal skins on Eidul Azha,” he said.
Ishaq Dar reminded that it was the Lahore High Court not the government that ordered ban on Altaf Hussain’s telephonic addresses. He reminded that it was decided before the beginning of talks with the MQM that they would place no conditions. He reiterated that the Karachi Operation was not against any political party but was aimed at ending crimes and criminal elements. He also asserted that the operation was started after unanimous consent of all the political parties.
Ishaq Dar’s statement that Karachi Operation was not against any particular political party was not correct, said leader of the MQM, Waseem Akhtar. He told Ishaq Dar to say under which law the welfare and political activities of the MQM had been restricted. Waseem Akhtar said the MQM was not making any unlawful demand. Political activities and collection of animal skins was the right of the MQM, he claimed and mentioned that forming the promised committee might take two to three months.
Waseem Akhtar said the prime minister was intimated about three points in the meeting with him. He was asked to allow telecasting Altaf Hussain’s speeches live or recorded ones. The prime minister could give such permission through his administrative order. He said the same three demands were placed with the talks committee and they had the feeling that the issues were not in its control and the accepting these three points was also not in government’s control.
