LAHORE: First successful operation of kidney transplant was carried out in Bahria Town Hospital here, making the hospital one among the few in the country with kidney transplant facility.
The operation was carried out by a team of expert doctors led by Prof Dr Jawad Sajid Khan on a 40 years old patient who was donated kidney by his sister Shagufta.
All expenses of the operation were paid by Bahria Town Chairman Malik Riaz Hussain.
A kidney transplant center has been established in the hospital where the operation and post-operation healthcare will be provided.
A liver transplant center is also being established soon, for which services of international expert Dr Peter from London has been hired along with two others, Dr Andrew and Dr Mathews.
A liver transplant costs around Rs 4 million and Bahria Town arranged such operations at India’s Apollo’s Hospital. Bahria Town has already established an implant center for deaf and blind children.
