ISLAMABAD: An application seeking early hearing of Lal Masjid case was filed on Saturday in the Supreme Court.
Tariq Asad advocate while filing the application for early hearing submitted that the instant petition of Lal Masjid is pending adjudication before the apex court, which had earlier been taken up in July 2007 and its proceedings were being conducted on short dates, but after enforcement of PCO, 2007 the proceedings discontinued after 2nd November 2007. He contended that after about 4 years the case was fixed and a JC comprising Justice (R) Shahzad Sheikh was constituted on December 4, 2012 to probe enquiry and submit report within 45 days. The commission conducted detailed enquiry and submitted the report.
He recalled that on April 18, 2013 after examining the report the apex court had allowed to make the report public and observed that the remaining documents of the report are ordered to be kept under seal. However, the same shall be opened, on need-to-need basis, at the appropriate time. The court had asked counsel Tariq Asad to go through the contents of the report and assist this court in further proceedings. Tariq Asad said that in compliance with the order of the apex court he submitted his comments in May 2013 and the case was fixed on 4 dates, but was left over and has not been fixed after August 2013.
