KP CM orders shifting of commercial entities from University Town

Promises retrieval of Ladies Club encroached land

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has ordered shifting of commercial entities, offices and educational institutions, from the University Town without affecting the interests of students.
He directed the district administration to work out modalities for amicably resolving the grievances of the residents of the University Town.
The chief minister also ordered reconstruction of all roads and footpaths, complete rehabilitation of the drainage system and parks, installation of modern security system in the town within a year.
He issued the orders in response to the problems and demands presented by a joint delegation of the University Town Residents Association and the Ladies Club.
Led by the Member Provincial Assembly Yasin Khalil, the delegation met the chief minister at his Secretariat on Tuesday.
Yaseen Khalil informed the chief minister that an amount of Rs456.7 million had been approved for rehabilitation of the infrastructure and beautification of the town.
Pervez Khattak sought a detailed report of illegal construction on a piece of 78 kanal land of the Ladies Club and assured the delegation that the land would be retrieved at any cost.
He promised provision of financial resources for renovation of the Ladies Club and construction of a mini-sports complex at the club. He issued order for removal of barriers erected by a foreign mission on a road in the town.
The chief minister took a serious notice of power outages due to presence of commercial and educational entities. He asked the Peshawar Electric Supply Company authorities to take necessary steps for redressing the grievances.
The deputy commissioner told the meeting that the administration had sealed 29 guesthouses in the town. However, he said, the administration was facing difficulty in taking action against the schools, colleges, universities as a large number of students were enrolled on these institutions and the action would affect their studies.
