PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have proposed creation of 600 positions of assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) exclusively for the family members of martyrs as over 320 sons and brothers of the cops killed during duty are yet to be appointed in the force under the compensation package, The News has learnt.
“Currently the martyrs have only 5 percent quota in the ASI posts. It will take another almost 10 years for the sons and brothers of those already killed to get the jobs as per the quota,” a source told The News.
Many of those who are yet to be given jobs have protested on a number of occasions. Some of them have been recruited as constables and will be inducted as ASI if posts are available as per their turns.
Presently, over 320 such families are waiting for their turn to get jobs as part of the compensation package for their martyred fathers or brothers killed several years back. The compensation package includes cash, a plot of land, salary till the age of 60 and other benefits.
According to a source, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Inspector General of Police Nasir Khan Durrani has now proposed creation of 600 seats of ASIs exclusively for the heirs of martyrs.“The proposal was sent to the government on June 28. After the creation of these positions, not only the pending cases will be settled but also in future the ward or brothers of a martyr will be given the job forthwith against the reserved positions,” an official told The News.
He added that Chief Minister Pervez Khattak had agreed and announced it during the passing-out parade of cops in Nowshera recently. Families of the martyrs and those injured in attacks are presently facing a host of problems due to bureaucratic hurdles in payment of compensation, getting of jobs and other benefits. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police force is marking the Martyrs Day today (August 4) on the death anniversary of Safwat Ghayur, who was additional inspector general of police and also serving as commandant of the Frontier Constabulary when he was attacked. On the Martyrs Day, homage will be paid to all those who died with their boots on. The main function is being held today at the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines. Camps were held all over the province for over a week to pay tributes to the martyrs. According to Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Establishment of the KP Police Fida Hassan Shah, a total of 1,508 policemen have been killed in various attacks in the province since 1971.
