PESHAWAR: The Ehtesab Commission Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday obtained eight days physical remand of three officials of the Social Welfare Department and a contractor from the Ehtesab Court.
The officials and the contractor were arrested on the charges of misappropriation of funds in purchase of sewing machines and tricycles on Monday. The four accused included Nisar Muhammad, assistant director (administration), former assistant director Afsar Khan, Social Welfare Officer, Lakki Marwat, Insafur Rehman and contractor Wali Khan.
The senior prosecutor Lajbar Khan and deputy director investigation Saleh Muhammad sought physical remand of the accused for further investigation into the case. The officials said the Ehtesab Commission arrested the four persons on charges of misappropriation of funds in purchase of sewing machines and tricycles.
They claimed the accused were members of a purchase committee that had ordered purchase of sewing machines and tricycles to the tune of Rs15 million from Niaz Enterprises through a vague advertisement in 2009-10. They said the three Social Welfare department officials had awarded contracts to their blue-eyed contractors without fulfilling the formalities.
