ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Thursday visited Metro Bus Service Islamabad-Rawalpindi and travelled on the bus without any protocol. The president after getting a ticket from the Secretariat Terminal rode on the bus. He mixed up with the general public. The commuters welcomed the president by clapping and raised slogans in his favour.Talking to the passengers of the Metro Bus Service, he said the residents of the twin cities had been provided quality service. He said that the service had made the life of the people of the twin cities easier. The commuters demanded that the timings of the service be increased.

Loadshedding in Pabbi protested

NOWSHERA: Residents of various localities in Pabbi staged protest against the power outages on Thursday.The protesters blocked the busy Grand Trunk Road for three hours for traffic near the Pabbi Railway Station. They were chanting slogans against the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) for the blackouts. The protesters said that 20-hour loadshedding in Pabbi was unjust and a denial of their rights.

Dar arranges one-month salary for PSM employees

ISLAMABAD: Just ahead of Eid, Finance Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has approved an amount of Rs480 million for grant of one month’s salary to the employees of Pakistan Steel Mills. According to an announcement made by the Finance Ministry on Thursday, the minister conveyed the anticipatory approval as chairman ECC as a special case, from Madinah Munawara.The decision has been taken on humanitarian grounds with a view to enable the employees and families of the Pakistan Steel Mills take part in Eidul Fitr festivities.

Nawaz’s granddaughter’s Nikah held in Madina
ISLAMABAD: Granddaughter of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Mahnoor Safdar got married with the son of renowned industrialist Chaudhry Munir.According to details, nikah ceremony of Mahnoor and Raheel Munir was held in Masjid-e-Nabwi in the presence of Mahnoor’s grandfather Nawaz Sharif and father of Raheel Munir, Mian Munir. Mahnoor Safdar is the daughter of Maryam Nawaz and Capt. Safdar.Other close relatives also attended the nikah ceremony. Nawaz Sharif, who is on a visit to Saudi Arabia, also performed Umrah and held meetings with the Saudi officials.
Eid security plan for Lahore finalised

LAHORE: Inspector General of Police Punjab, Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera has directed field officers to follow the Ramzan security plan for the protection of citizens and maintenance of law and order on Juma-tul-Wida, Chaand Raat and Eid prayers.Field officers were also directed to ensure the implementation on already issued security SOP in their own respective districts. They were also directed to deploy officials in civil dress besides uniform force at important government buildings, sensitive points, business centres and Eid bazaars.

Gang-raped Charsadda girl, friend in record statements

CHARSADDA: A girl who was allegedly gang raped in Wardaga area in the limits of Sardheri Police Station, and her friend were produced in the court of civil judge on Thursday. The Sardheri police brought the victim girl and her friend from Darul Aman (shelter home) in Mardan and produced them in the court of civil judge where they recorded their statements.After recording statements in the presence of their lawyer, they were taken back to Darul Aman in Mardan.

Nine members of banned outfit arrested

LAHORE: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Lahore arrested nine members of a defunct organisation, Jaish-e-Mohammad, including its district leader and his confidant while collecting donations.CTD officials recovered cash and receipt books from them. The arrested included Rana Shahid Maqbool, district leader, and his naib Akhtar Moavia. CTD officials were informed that some members of Jaish-e-Mohammad were collecting charity in the name of Al-Rehmat Truct. They raided Gulshan Ravi and Township and arrested nine persons.

Man kills female cousin, self

LAHORE: A man shot his female cousin dead before killing himself in Shahdara Town on Thursday.The woman was identified as Gulnaz, 25, and the murderer Ishfaq. The accused reached the house of his paternal cousin, exchanged harsh words with her over an unknown issue and shot her dead. Later, he also committed suicide by shooting himself. Police shifted the bodies to morgue. No case was registered till the filing of the report.

SNGPL GM summoned on 23rd over ‘misuse of power’

FAISALABAD: FIA Special Judge Sohaib Ahmad Roomi has summoned Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited Faisalabad General Manager Sohail Gulzar on July 23 on a charge of providing industrial connection to the factory of Naheed Abbas at Chak 117/GB by surpassing his powers. The prosecution said that SNGPL senior officer Shahid Shaukat had been appearing in the court as an accused. It said that a thorough inquiry conducted by FIA Deputy Director Rana Mushtaq Ahmad had declared the general manager and the factory owner innocent but the court did not agree with it and summoned Rana Mushtaq Ahmad and the factory owner on July 23.

One convicted in Lahore for keeping fake credit cards

LAHORE: A banking court of Lahore Thursday awarded one year jail term to a person namely Imran Nazir on charges of keeping fake credit cards. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on the convict. In case of default in payment of fine, convict will face further jail term. Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had arrested Imran Nazir and seized a number of fake credit cards from his possession. Later, challan was submitted before the banking court declaring Imran guilty of said offence. On Thursday, the court after hearing the final arguments of both parties convicted Imran.

Demo against Faisalabad Police for ‘siding’ with rapist

FAISALABAD: Parents and relatives of a rape victim staged a demonstration against police for siding with the accused here on Thursday. They also staged a sit-in at District Council Chowk. They were chanting slogans against police. They were also carrying placards and banners. They said that maid Sughran Bibi was allegedly raped by her employer Adil Ejaz of Madina Town. They alleged that Madina Town police were siding with the accused.

Three electrocuted in Faisalabad incidents

FAISALABAD: Three boys were electrocuted in different incidents here on Thursday. In the first incident, Shahbaz Ahmad was working in a factory on Millat Road when he was electrocuted. In the second incident, Adil Arshad of Awaisnagar was electrocuted when he touched a live wire in a factory. In the third incident, Noman was electrocuted when he touched a naked wire.

Man killed in road accident

FAISALABAD: A man was killed and three others were injured in a collision between a truck and a tractor-trolley here. A tractor-trolley was on its way when a truck collided with it on Khannuana Bypass. As a result, trolley driver Saifur Rehman was killed on the spot while Gulzar, Siddique and Shabbir were critically injured. Police have impounded the truck and started investigation.

Two bodies found in Lahore

LAHORE: Two persons were found dead in various parts of the city on Thursday.Passersby found the bodies of two men in Bhatti Gate police limits and informed the police. Both the men, yet to be identified, were addicts who might have died of an overdose of drugs, police claimed. The bodies were shifted to morgue for autopsy.

DIG prisons visits Lahore jails

153 cops promoted in Gujranwala
LAHORE: At least 153 officers of Gujranwala Range were promoted on Thursday. At least 134 head constables were promoted to the posts of ASI and 19 ASIs were promoted to the post of sub inspectors.
Heavy rain in Lahore on Eid likely

LAHORE: Scattered heavy rain is expected in the provincial metropolis on Eid day. Seasonal low lies over north Balochistan and its adjoining areas with its trough extending south-eastward. Moderate monsoon currents are penetrating into upper parts of the country and likely to strengthen from tomorrow and may persist in upper and central parts till Tuesday. In the next 24 hours, very hot and humid weather is expected in most plain areas of the country, however widespread rain-thundershower associated with gusty winds is expected in Kashmir, Hazara, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Gujranwala divisions while at scattered places in Malakand, Peshawar, Kohat, Mardan, FATA, Lahore and Sargodha divisions. Scattered heavy fall is also likely in Kashmir, Hazara, Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Gujranwala divisions.

Three members of militant group arrested

PESHAWAR: The local police along with intelligence officials on Thursday raided
a hideout in Mattani on Thursday and arrested three members of a militant group who were planning an attack during Eid days, said the sources.They said the raid was conducted on a tip-off provided by intelligence officials.All the three rounded up members of the militant group were shifted to an unknown place for interrogation. The officials said those arrested were planning a major terrorism bid during Eid days.Cops all over the provincial capital have been alerted to thwart any untoward incident in crowded shopping centres, public places and other areas.

GUJRANWALA: While initiating disciplinary action for misdoings, the Gepco chief executive officer has suspended two executive engineers and four sub-divisional officers. They include XENs Shafiqur Rehman and Shahbaz and SDOs Ziaullah, M Ashraf and M Moazzam.

Man strangles infant daughter

LAHORE: An eight-month-old girl was strangled by her father in Mustafabad on Thursday. It was reported that Ehtasham had married Rabia three years back who gave birth to two children Waqas and Ayesha. Ehtasham had killed his son Waqas on May 10, 2015, after having an exchange of harsh words with his wife. On the day of the incident, the accused strangled his daughter and threw her body in front the house of his in-laws. Police have registered a case against the murderer.

Police arrest two militants

PESHAWAR: The police claimed to have arrested two militants in Kohistan district on Thursday. A press release issued here stated that the militants, Maulvi Walidain and Abdul Salam were at their homes in Tangar village when the police raided the area and arrested them. The two were shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

MINGORA: Angry protesters damaged the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) office during a protest against power outages on Thursday. The residents of the Saidu Sharif Road in Mingora town staged the protest rally against the hours-long power outages. The protesters damaged the gate of the Pesco office and blocked the road for traffic as a mark of protest. They were chanting slogans against the Pesco and government for the unannounced blackouts.

Over 6,000 prisoners to celebrate Eid in two Lahore jails

LAHORE: Over 6,000 prisoners will celebrate Eidul Fitr in the two jails of provincial metropolis amid tight security to avoid untoward incident while special arrangements have been finalised for their food and prayers. Jail administration has also released 38 prisoners involved in petty cases on the special orders of Additional and Sessions Judge so that they could celebrate Eid with their families. As the different courts granted bails to 111 prisoners in different cases, they were also released from Camp Jail. Superintendent of Camp Jail Shahram Khan told The News that prisoners were allowed to see their family members, relatives and friends for three days (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). There was no time limit. They were able to greet each other and share their domestic affairs. He said that on first and second day of Eid, food and other items would be received from the families of prisoners but they would not be allowed to meet each other.

Reply sought in illegal detention case

LAHORE: Additional District and Sessions Judge Asghar Khan Thursday sought report from the SHO Gulberg on a petition seeking action against police officials of said police station for detaining a person illegally and demanding bribe for his release. A local resident Shahida Bibi had filed a petition before the court contending that Sub Inspectors Islam and Zulfiqar along with four other constables had detained illegally her husband namely Tallat and now demanding bribe for his release. He implored the court to recover her husband from the illegal custody of police and take action against police officials for demanding bribe. The court has sought reply from the SHO Gulberg police station in this regard after hearing the plea of petitioner.

Woman, daughter electrocuted

HARIPUR: A woman and her daughter died of electrocution in the limits of Khalabat Police Station. Police quoted Jahangir, husband of the deceased, as saying that his wife was sewing cloth at her home. “She suffered electric shocks when she touched the machine which had developed a fault. Her infant daughter, who was also sitting in her lap at the time of the incident, was also electrocuted. Both died on the spot.

Fireworks seized, shopkeepers held

HANGU: The police recovered fireworks material and arrested four shopkeepers in various areas, police sources said on Thursday. They said the police raided bazaars in Hangu city and recovered fireworks material from shops. The police arrested four shopkeepers, Syed Najmul Hassan, Tahir Jamal, Razeem Gul and Muhammad Javed for selling the banned items of fireworks.

Two persons killed in Mingora

MINGORA: Two persons were killed in separate incidents in the Swat district, the police said on Thursday. One Asad was killed in a road accident in Sher Palam village while an employee of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company was electrocuted when he was repairing the transformer in Saidu Sharif.
