LAHORE: A meeting of civil society took place on Monday chaired by former Supreme Court Bar Association president and rights activist Asma Jehangir. Participants of the meeting stressed that the draft of Hindu Marriage Bill has been in cold storage for long. They demanded the draft bill be passed and implemented immediately. The civil society also urged that before passage of the bill, the Hindu community, especially the women, should be taken into confidence. The meeting highlighted that there was a need to stop forced conversions of the Hindus. Under the current circumstances, such laws should be introduced in Pakistan that is in line with international laws.

NAB arrests accused in Rs50.6m fraud in Multan

MULTAN: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested a most wanted proclaimed offender Abdur Rauf and brought him to Multan to start investigation on Monday as the accused deceived innocent citizens through bogus agriculture business.According to officials, the accused - arrested from Pir Mehal - and his accomplice Chaudhry Aijaz established a company ‘Shan Agro’ in Vehari. They collected money from citizens for supplying agriculture products, but allegedly misappropriated the amount (Rs50.6 million) and disappeared after shutting down offices. The NAB officials have filed reference before an accountability court.Officials say Rauf has been captured after hectic efforts as the accused had changed their names and addresses.

Two Afghan extortionists arrested

PESHAWAR: The police arrested two Afghan nationals allegedly involved in extortions, police sources said on Monday. They said that two Afghans Hizbullah and Muhibullah had been making extortion calls to a trader Muhammad Bashir, demanding one million rupees. The police started investigation after the trader lodged a first information report and traced the whereabouts of the accused through their cellphones. The police arrested the accused and shifted them to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

Remand of ex-SHO extended in Class X student killing case

FAISALABAD Magistrate Muhammad Asif on Monday extended remand of former People’s Colony SHO Faryad Cheema for two days in a case of killing class 10 student Farhan and seriously injuring his friend Fahad in a fake encounter. They were taking snaps in Madina Town Park with a toy pistol when the SHO allegedly killed Farhan and injured Fahad in the fake encounter last month.

Policeman shot dead in Mardan

MARDAN: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Mardan registered a case against two miscreants for killing a police constable in the limits of Shahbaz Garhi Police Station last night, the police said. Constable Gul Habib told the CTD officials that last night they had received information about presence of a proclaimed offender Zubair at his house. He added that he along with Constable Sajid Hussain were coming back after conducting a raid when two unidentified gunmen fired at them. As a result, Constable Sajid Hussain died on the spot while he escaped unhurt in the attack. On June 24, unidentified militants had killed a head constable Shoaib Khan, who was performing duty at CTD Mardan.

Tribesmen shot dead in Ghallanai

GHALLANAI: Unidentified persons shot dead two tribesmen in Prang Ghar tehsil, official sources said on Monday. The sources said that armed men shot dead two tribesmen Bilal and Ismail in Spinkai Salay in Prang Ghar. A few days back armed men killed one Rahid Khan in the same area. The locals expressed concern over the rising crime incidents. However, the political administration said that the area was not in its jurisdiction.

Police book two Afghan nationals

MARDAN: The police have booked two Afghan nationals living illegally in the city and for gaining computerised national identity card (CNICs). According to City Police Station, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Taimur Khan arrested two Afghan nationals, Ameerullah and Imran, currently living near T.B Hospital in Baghdada. The police said that they had also recovered fake CNIC from them. They registered cases against them and started investigation.

Man kills father over property dispute

CHAKWAL: A man shot dead his father over a property dispute in Khai village in the area of Kallar Kahar police station. Shehzad Allah Baksh exchanged harsh words with his father Nabi Baksh about a property dispute. In a fit of rage Shehzad took out his pistol and shot dead his father on the spot. His brother Mudassar Mehboob also sustained bullet injuries in the incident.

Baby recovered in two hours

MUZAFFARGARH: Kot Addu police Monday recovered a four-year-old boy from the custody of kidnappers in two hours. Accused Rukhsana Begum and her husband Zameer Hussain Gurmani abducted Naeem Sadiq when he was playing outside his house in Shadi Khan Manda village. Naeem’s father informed police about the incident and the police arrested the kidnappers and recovered the boy in two hours.

Nine workers injured in explosion

GUJRANWALA: Nine workers were injured when explosives exploded in a melting metal scrap factory at Mafiwala on Monday. The workers were busy working when the explosion occurred. As a result, Waqas, Farooq, Ahmed Yar, Ali, Hamza, Shahid, Abdul Rehman, Asad and Irfan were injured and shifted to a hospital.

Man eletrocuted in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD: A man was electrocuted at Mansoorabad. Kashif Saleem received an electric shock when he was switching on a motor. As a result, he fell unconscious. He was shifted to a hospital where he died.
