PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has constituted a joint investigation team to probe the assassination of former provnincial minister Israrullah Gandapur in a suicide attack in 2013.
An official said that the additional inspector general of police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would head the joint investigation team (JIT) and would have representatives of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Intelligence Bureau (IB), Police Special Branch and SP Investigation Dera Ismail Khan.
Ikramullah Gandapur and Inamullah Gandapur, the brothers of the deceased minister, had demanded formation of the JIT to probe the murder.Ikramullah Gandapur, who is agriculture minister in the KP government and belongs to the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), through a letter had demanded that after a lapse of one and a half years the perpetrators have neither been identified nor brought to justice.
The copies of the official letter were sent to Imran Khan, chairman of the PTI, federal interior minister, chief of army staff and corps commander Peshawar. In the letter, Ikramullah Gandapur demanded constitution of the JIT headed by a serving army officer of the rank of brigadier to probe the suicide attack on Israrullah Gandapur.
Israrullah Gandapur, who was the law and parliamentary affairs minister in the KP government, was killed along with several others when a suicide bomber targetted him in his hujra on the occasion of Eidul Azha in October 2013.His family has been demanding from all concerned to work out the high-profile murder case.
On a number of occasions, the family members expressed displeasure over the slow pace of investigation into the incident.“It would not be out of place to make it a point that “No Serious Efforts” whatsoever have been made to track down the perpetrators, handlers, financiers and plotters of this gory incident. We protested this issue at all the concerned forums but to no avail,” Ikramullah Gandapur wrote in his letter.
