LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr. Tahirul Qadri has demanded that all political and religious leaders who get funds from abroad should be awarded the death sentence for the crime.
He was talking to the media on Saturday after chairing a joint meeting of PAT Central Executive Council and Central Working Council. He asked why the army was alone in the war against terrorism and alleged that the Sharif brothers were playing politics on the National Action Plan and were hoodwinking the army and the nation on the issue. He alleged that Sharif brothers were staunch supporters of terrorist outfits and used terrorism to tame their opponents and to come into power, adding that their communications with terrorist outfits was an open secret.
Dr. Tahirul Qadri said no progress has been made on the NAP over the last six months, accusing that funds continued to pour in from abroad for terrorists and the registration process of madrassas which preached and distributed hate material had not even started. He said NECTA had not started work and neither a syllabus prepared for schools and madrassas. He said wat is the duty of the government to protect the rights of the minorities for which nothing had been done and reforms were not suggested for revamping the justice system. He said no action had been initiated to stop the use of the internet and social media by terrorist organisations.
Dr. Tahirul Qadri said that instead of implementing the NAP the Sharifs’ had left the nation at the mercy of terrorists and were busy in collecting commissions and kickbacks by making metro bus services, motorways and politically motivated election plans. A resolution was passed in the meeting demanding immediate publication of the Judicial Commission report and formation of a Joint Investigation Team as desired by the heirs of those killed in the Model Town incident. The resolution also demanded immediate resignation of the persons nominated in the FIR of the incident including Shahbaz Sharif and Rana Sana Ullah. The meeting decided to speed up the reorganisation of the party and formed committees to oversee massive participation in the coming Local Bodies elections. It was decided to protest the delimitation of the constituencies and any further delay in the holding of LB polls. Committees were formed to keep an eye on the moves of the government and if any delay or pre-polls rigging is witnessed the protest campaign would be launched.
Dr Qadri alleged that over Rs 238 billion allocated by the rulers for rural development was being used to rig LB polls. He demanded to halt pre-polls rigging and the money should be frozen till the next elected LB representatives took over.
Dr. Tahirul Qadri said his permanent residence was in Pakistan, where his family lived. “I demand all politicians to bring back their families and all the money they have stashed abroad and invest it in Pakistan,” he added.
