MIRAMSHAH: The Mir Ali-Thall Road, Mir Ali Subdivision, North Waziristan Agency, has been blocked for traffic by men from two rival tribes for the past five days due to a land dispute in the remote Shawal Valley, local residents said on Tuesday.
All educational institutions remained closed for the past five days and rival tribesmen have taken positions against each other. The armed tribesmen of Miami Khwajakhel and Miami Madakhel, sub-tribes of Kabalkhel tribe based in Shawal Valley, have been fighting due to the land dispute in the remote mountainous Shawal Valley since long.
The two sub-tribes are also living in Shawa town near Mir Ali, North Waziristan. They have blocked the Mir Ali-Thall Road for traffic and pedestrians for the past five days. Tribal sources said the armed tribesmen, patrolling the road in their respective villages, were detaining people and snatching vehicles from them. The warring tribesmen had also closed all educational institutions in their areas of control. Local tribesmen Abdullah, Abdul Noor and Shahid Khan told The News that a tense situation had been prevailing in the area for the last couple of days due to the fighting.
