Two dacoits carrying Rs3m bounty killed in Muzaffargarh

MUZAFFARGARH: Two dacoits carrying Rs 3 million bounty collectively were killed in an encounter with police here. Khangarh police received information that five dacoits were present on the bank of Chenab River near Bait Jouck. Following the information, Khangarh, Civil Lines and Rollanwali police raided the area to arrest them. On seeing police, the dacoits opened fire on them. Police also retaliated. As a result, Muhammad Jamshed and Irfan alias Irfana Dasti were killed on the spot while their accomplices Ramzan alias Mana Langha, Shafiq alias Shafiqua and Shakeel alias Shakeela Dasti managed to escape. The killed dacoits were wanted in more than 30 cases. The government had fixed Rs 2 million bounty for Jamshed and Rs 1 million for Irfan. However, the DPO said that the two dacoits were killed by the firing of their accomplices.

Another policeman shot dead in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Another head constable was shot dead by unidentified motorcyclists on Ring Road near Hazarkhwani on Monday. Head constable Nigah Hussain left home for office in the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines when two motorcyclists intercepted him near Hazarkhwani. The attackers opened fire on him and escaped. The cop later succumbed to injuries. His funeral prayer was offered at the police lines, attended by capital city police officer, senior superintendent of police operations, commandant of Frontier Reserve Police and other cops.

Two public prosecutors among four booked over fake FIR

OKARA: On the report of the Depalpur additional sessions judge’s record keeper, police booked a lawyer, a district public prosecutor, an assistant district public prosecutor and a woman drug pusher. Some three months ago, Haveli Lakha police arrested Mumtaz Bibi alias Taji with 2.75 charas. The bail applications of the drug pusher were rejected by a lower court and the Lahore High Court. Few days ago, the Depalpur ASJ granted bail to the drug pusher. Later, the court and police came to know that the woman drug pusher was granted bail through a fake FIR allegedly prepared by lawyer Rana Qasim of Depalpur. On knowing the facts, ASJ Tariq Javed sent a letter to the DPO regarding the preparation of the fake FIR. Depalpur City registered a case against lawyer Rana Qasim, DPP Ashraf Bhatti, ADPP Zubair Khalid and drug pusher Mumtaz Bibi alias Taji. Police have arrested Rana Qasim while the other accused are still at large. Meanwhile, the Depalpur tehsil bar association went on strike against the arrest of their colleague.

JHANG: The Punjab Chief Minister’s Inspection Team on Monday visited the site where three labourers had died while cleaning sewerage line.The CM’s inspection team visited the area after CM Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the incident. The team not only inspected the site but also inquired about the details of the incident from the residents of Khaki Shah Road. The locals criticised the TMA and the district administration for their alleged criminal negligence and lingering the development project for the last five years. The locals pointed out that construction work of the road and sewerage line was awarded to a local contractor five years ago, which could not be completed.

Accused in Shangla cop killing case arrested

BISHAM: An accused, who allegedly shot dead a constable a day earlier and injured another in Oluoch area, was arrested Monday in Chakesar area in Puran tehsil, police said. They said that the Chakesar police arrested the accused Raheedullah during a search operation and handed him over to the Oluoch police. The accused had allegedly kidnapped a girl and kept her hostage at his house in Oluoch. He opened fire on the police when they raided his house to recover the girl. A constable Murad Ali was killed and a Head Constable Hassan Rehman sustained bullet injuries in the firing. The accused had escaped. Later the police launched a search operation in Puran and arrested the accused.

Officials, contractor held in Peshawar in corruption case

PESHAWAR: The Anti-Corruption Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday arrested a grade-20 secretary, three other senior officials and a contractor for alleged irregularities in funds a couple of years ago. An official said that former secretary local government and currently director general prosecution Aurangzeb Khan, deputy secretary Shakirullah, directress Tahira Yasmin, former ADC Charsadda and currency magistrate Samiur Rahman and contractor Manzoor Qureshi were arrested by the department for irregularities in Rs46 million funds meant for purchase of computers for the offices of nazims. The department started investigating by questioning the arrested officials.

LG candidates ask ECP to reschedule re-polling in Bannu

BANNU: The candidates in the local government elections Monday asked the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) not to hold the re-election in Ramazan or else they would boycott it. Speaking at a press conference, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate for tehsil council seat from Domail II, Imtiaz Khan and several independent candidates said that turnout in the previously held local government election was low due to scorching heat. They said the turnout in the re-polling on July 5 would be much lower than the previous elections. They said that it was difficult for the candidates to convince the voters to come out of their houses in Ramazan amid sweltering heat to cast their votes.

Remand of SHO extended in student’s killing case

FAISALABAD: Magistrate Muhammad Asif on Monday extended remand of People’s Colony SHO Faryad Cheema for four days in a case of killing a class 10 student in a fake encounter. Police produced the accused SHO before the magistrate, who extended his remand and directed police to produce him again in the court on July 3. The SHO had allegedly killed Farhan Ahmad and injured his friend Fahad in a fake encounter when they were playing with a toy pistol at Madina Town.

Gusty winds claims three lives in Lahore

LAHORE: Two sisters were killed when a tree fell on a rickshaw on Sundar Das Road due to gusty winds in the Racecourse police limits on Monday. Police have handed over the bodies to the family after completing legal formalities. They were identified as Rehana, 50, and Shabana, 45, residents of Sheesh Mehal, Data Darbar. They were riding a rickshaw and as they reached near Muslim League House, a tree fell on them. As a result, they received multiple injuries. They were rushed to hospital where the two sisters succumbed to injuries. The rickshaw driver survived the accident. Moving scenes were observed at the victims’ home. Meanwhile, a woman was killed and two others received injuries when the roof of their house collapsed at Shamnagar, near Noorani mosque. The woman was identified as Mazahira Bibi.
