BANNU: Two persons, including policeman, were shot dead in two separate incidents here on Tuesday, sources said. The sources said that the personnel of the Frontier Reserve Police (FRP), Moeenullah, was on his way to the place of his duty when two unidentified motorcyclists allegedly fired at him, leaving him critically. He was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bannu where he expired. The deceased cop was deputed at the residence of the Supreme Court judge Justice Dost Muhammad Khan in Kakki tehsil. Meanwhile, 26-year-old Alamgir was on his way home when gunmen allegedly shot him dead in Kot Dayem.

Demo against killings of Muslims in Burma

BAHAWALPUR: Activists of the Peoples Students Federation Tehsil Rahimyar Khan chapter and Peoples Lawyers Forum on Tuesday staged a demonstration against the killings of the Muslims in Burma. The protesters led by Masood Khan Pathan and Zahid Khan Bangash advocate chanted slogans against the killings and atrocities in Burma. They criticised the Burmese government. Later, students of various colleges including Khawaja Fareed Postgraduate College also joined the protest. The protesters demanded the government end ties with the Burma and present a resolution in the UNO against the government of the Burma. They also demanded the government take a bold stance on the Burma issue.

Rally expresses solidarity with Rohingya Muslims

OKARA: The District Peace Committee (DPC) on Tuesday took out a rally to express solidarity with Burmese Muslims. The DPC members, including Sufi Latif, Haji Ahsanul Haq, Syed Kausar Ali Rizvi, Zafarullah Qamar Lakhvi and Haji Muhammad Saleem, led the rally from Ghausia Masjid up to MCB Chowk. They were chanting slogans against the Burmese government.

Three injured in brawl on Bahawalpur

BAHAWALPUR: Three persons were injured during a brawl on the District Courts premises on Tuesday. Asma Bibi appeared in the court of Civil Judge Fakhar Bashir to record her statement in a case which she had filed to get divorce from her husband. In the meantime, the groups of Ghalloo Baradri and Ganjju Baradri, residents of Mauza Chotala, Lodhran district, started fighting over the issue. As a result, Fida Hussain, Yamin and Zarar were injured and sent to the BVH on the order of the judge for their medical. The judge also directed the Cantt police to give safe passage to Asma Bibi and proceed accordingly against the accused persons.

Seven injured in Hafizabad accident

HAFIZABAD: Seven persons, including five schoolchildren, were injured in an accident near Thattha Khairoo Mutmal village on Tuesday. Irfan Ahmad and Ali Raza were taking students of a private school on their rickshaws when their rickshaws collided with each other. As a result, both rickshaw drivers and five students, including Zain Abbas, Ali Hassan, Irfan and Ali Raza, were injured. The injured were shifted to the Allied Hospital Faisalabad.

Martyred soldier buried in Chakwal

CHAKWAL: Muhammad Naveed, a soldier who was martyred while fighting terrorists in Wana, was buried at his ancestral graveyard at Laphi village on Tuesday. Muhammad Naveed (23), son of Ch Khan, was martyred when he was fighting terrorists in Wana. Scores of people from various walks of life attended his funeral prayers. Later, he was buried with full military honour at his ancestral graveyard. The martyred soldier had contracted marriage just three months ago.

Death warrants for convict issued

GUJRANWALA: Anti-Terrorism Court No-1 Judge Imtiaz Ahmad Chaudhry on Tuesday issued death warrants for a murder convict. The convict, Ashraf, will be hanged in the Central Jail on June 16. The convict had killed a minor girl, Kaneez, after raping her on November 3, 1999. The then ATC judge Khawaja Javed had awarded him death sentence on April 14, 2000. The Lahore High Court had rejected his appeal on December 15, 2001, and the Supreme Court on December 29, 2007. The president rejected his mercy petition on May 27, 2015.

Two dacoits killed in road accident

KASUR: Two dacoits were killed when their motorcycle hit a donkey cart near Talwandi on Kasur-Allahabad Road on Tuesday. According to police, Azam of Jumshair Kalan and Iftikhar of Sadar Pattoki area were moving to Allahabad from Kasur, when they reached near Talwandi area they hit a donkey cart and died on the spot. Police found two pistols, blades, a cutter and other tools lying near their bodies. According to the DPO office, Azam and Iftikhar were absconders and wanted by Pattoki Sadar and Phoolnagar police in twenty different cases of dacoity, theft and others. The bodies were sent to THQ HOspital Chunian.

Widow abducted, raped for two months

OKARA: A widow was abducted and raped for two months. Nusrat Bibi, widow of Arif, was waiting for a train for Karachi at a railway station when Shoaibur Rashid, Asif Rashid and Farooq allegedly abducted her about two months ago. The accused shifted her to a place near Depalpur where Shoaib allegedly raped her. On Tuesday, the accused threw the widow at Depalpur Chowk. Police have registered a case.

Four drown in canal near Thatta
SUKKUR: Four bodies were fished out from a canal near here on Tuesday. Reports said the local people saw four bodies floating in Paijari Canal near Thatta had informed the police. Later the police and local divers gathered and fished out the bodies. The bodies were neither identified nor the cause of drowning could be ascertained till the filing of this report. —Correspondent

Lawyers continue strike

LAHORE: Lawyers on Tuesday continued protest against the killing of two lawyers in Daska. Lahore High Court Bar Association convened its general house meeting and recorded daily protest in a camp set up at the GPO Chowk. Addressing the house, the bar’s leaders said the lawyers would continue protest till the conviction of the police officials involved in the murder of their colleagues. Pakistan Bar Council vice chairman Azam Nazir Tarar told the house that all representatives of the bars concerned were satisfied with investigation of the case conducted so far. He said the challan of the suspects would be filed soon before the trial court. LHCBA secretary Ahmad Qayyum said Punjab province had become a police state. He said the government would experience difficulties if it did not control the unbridled police.

Insaf Lawyers Forum asks CEC to resign

NOWSHERA: Provincial leader of the Insaf Lawyers’ Forum Tuesday asked the chief election commissioner to tender resignation after the allegation of rigging and mismanagement in thelocal government elections in Khyber Pakthunwkhwa. Syed Azmat Ali Shah Gilani said the elections were conducted on the directives of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He said conducting transparent and peaceful election was the responsibility of the Election Commission.“Conducting the election through police, health officials and teachers without proper training was a conspiracy to make it controversial,” he claimed.Azmat Gilani said that tripartite alliance was involved in rigging, adding the opposition would not have obtained 10 percent of the vote had the election been conducted under army’s supervision. He said that PTI ministers’ relatives would not have lost had the party been involved in rigging.The lawyers’ leader said that the elections were made controversial to divert attention from the rigging in the general elections. He said the provincial government had extended support to the Election Commission which was responsible for holding peaceful, free and transparent elections.

NOWSHERA: Five workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), including three members-elect for the local government, were arrested after a local court rejected their pre-arrest bail application on Tuesday. Awami National Party (ANP) worker Sohail Khan accused the PTI workers in the first information report of attacking the ANP office. He stated that the ANP workers along with Mian Iftikhar Hussain were present when the office was attacked. He said that the PTI workers led by district councillors-elect Ashfaq Ahmed, Ashfaq alias Kako and tehsil councillor-elect Sajid Khan were celebrating their party’s candidates victory. “The PTI workers attacked the ANP office when the celebratory procession was passing through the area,” he said, adding that the PTI workers smashed windowpanes, damaged vehicles and tried to attack Mian Iftikhar Hussain. The accused had secured bail before arrest from the court of Additional District Judge Jehanzeb Khan Shinwari. However, the judge withdrew the concession of pre-arrest bail on Tuesday when lawyers from both sides completed their arguments.The accused were shifted to the Cantonment Police Station in Nowshera for security reasons.

KP Police directed to book fake CNIC holders

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nasir Khan Durrani has directed police to register cases against those involved in making and attestation of the documents of fake identity cards. A press release here on Tuesday stated that the regional and district police officers had been directed to register first information report (FIR) against fake identity card holders and those who attested the relevant documents for this purpose. In the circular, they were directed to make contact with the officials of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) and collect from them the necessary details for this purpose.

Poverty-stricken couple commits suicide

SUKKUR: A poverty stricken couple committed suicide on Tuesday. Reports said a poverty stricken couple Naju Bheel and her husband Kenwal, who had six children - three sons and three daughters – hanged themselves to death in village Noor Muhammad Ghambhir in Golarchi. Local residents shifted their bodies hanging to a tree with rope tied around their necks. They said the couple was very poor and could not feed their hungry children. The begged for help to the wealthy but they only humiliated them. Finally the couple decided to end their life.

Six fall into canal as rickshaw overturns; five rescued

SUKKUR: Seven passengers travelling in a rickshaw fell in Sadhoja Link Road Daad Barrage near Moro on Tuesday after the vehicle overturned. Reports said Mukhtiarkar Shankar Lal, along with his staff and SHO Sadhoja, reached the spot after information of incident and started rescue efforts. Six persons, including Habibullah, Azizullah, Feroza, Fehmida and Shakila were rescued, whereas the body of a child - Hizbullah Korti - fished out of the canal by divers.

People suffer due to protest on Peshawar road

PESHAWAR: The commuters in the provincial capital suffered a lot as a group of traders from Landikotal staged a protest outside the Governor’s House on Tuesday.The protesters were seeking transfer of a few officials accusing them of harassing the traders in Landikotal. They said the officials are trying to destroy their business by imposing unjust fines.

Teachers stage rally in Karak

KARAK: The teachers on Tuesday staged a protest rally outside the office of deputy commissioner here to protest the alleged harassment of their colleagues during the election duty on May 30. Led by All Primary Teachers Association (APTA) district president Javed Iqbal Khattak, Tanzeem-i-Asatiza leader Khairullah Hawari and association’s women wing president Balqees Begum, the protesters marched to deputy commissioner office. The protesters criticised the government for poor arrangements for the local government elections and termed it a worst election in the history of the country.
They claimed that the supporters of the candidates harassed the election staff. The election staff was taken hostage in some places but the administration failed to provide security to them,” one of the protesters said, adding that only two cops had been deputed at each polling station who were also feeling insecure. They complained that even drinking water was not provided to the election staff in the polling stations.

Four independents join PTI in Tank

TANK: Four independent councillors-elect on Tuesday announced joining the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).Irfan Khan Kundi, Aftab Ahmad, Zahir Shah and Nasir Langa announced joining the PTI during a press conference here. Member National Assembly belonging to the PTI, Dawar Khan Kundi was also present on the occasion. The PTI had won six district council seats, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl five, Pakistan People’s Party one and four candidates were elected independently in the local government elections of May 30.

Four killed in DI Khan accident

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Four persons were killed and two others sustained injuries in a road accident in Kacha Milikhel in the limits of Kari Khaisor Police Station on Tuesday. The sources said that a truck (BUB-053) loaded with gas cylinders was heading to Dera Ismail Khan from Punjab when it turned turtle while negotiating a turn in Kacha Milikhel village. Four persons, whose identity could not be ascertained, were killed and two others sustained injuries. The police reached the spot and shifted the dead and injured to the District Headquarters Hospital in Dera Ismail Khan.
