LAHORE: Attracting hundreds of visitors, particularly students, during the last two days, Pakistan’s biggest education expo, The News Education Expo’15, concluded at PC Hotel here on Sunday evening.
Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Chairperson Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin was the chief guest on the last day of the expo. He also distributed shields among the representatives of participating institutes, colleges, universities and other organisations.
Talking to media, Dr Nizam lauded the efforts of Jang Media Group for holding the education expo in an organised manner. He said the provincial commission taking advantage of experiences of The News Education Expo would plan similar events in future to take universities and higher education institutes to small cities to directly interact with the students.
The PHEC chief said this year The News Education Expo had brought together more institutes under one roof to facilitate the students and it was good to see private and public institutes at the event.
It is pertinent to mention here that the education expo was inaugurated by Punjab Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan on Saturday and since then hundreds of visitors thronged the venue and explored the opportunity to have face-to-face interaction with representatives of participating institutes.
Lahore campus director of Bahria University (a project of Pakistan Navy), Commodore (Retd) M Amjad Zaman SI (M) said the varsity’s stall at the expo was visited by a large number of serious students during the two days. Talking about the Bahria University (BU), he said its Lahore campus was established around two years back and ever since it made significant progress vis-à-vis provision of quality education and other facilities to students.
Commodore (Retd) Amjad Zaman said BU was a credible and trusted name and had set up its own endowment fund to fully support talented students coming from humble background. “We have been hunting students on merit and those coming from low-income families are being fully supported through scholarships and student loans etc”, he added.
The BU Lahore director said the varsity was focusing on quality education and offering market-oriented and demand driven courses.
Bahria University’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Mehwish Kamran said her varsity was HEC recognised and had purpose built campuses in Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi focusing on academic excellence and research. “Our university has strong international linkages with 29 universities of United States, Australia, Canada, UK and other countries”, she added.
Head of Student Affairs Office at the Information Technology University (ITU) Samina Hafeez said The News Education Expo had been a wonderful experience as the varsity received a lot of inquiries from visiting students on both days. Every kind of information from academic programmes, admission process to scholarship opportunities at ITU were shared with the students by the varsity representatives, she added.
Content Developer at eLearn.Punjab Maryam Shahzadi said a lot of visitors showed keen interest in the online work her organisation had been doing, including provision of textbooks online free-of-cost. Farhat Ejaz, Office Coordinator at Nisa Girls Colleges, said her institute had six campuses in different cities, including Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Kharian, Jhelum and Gujjar Khan offering quality education to female students.
Lahore Leads University’s Project Manager Usman Anwar said his varsity was HEC recognised and offered variety of academic programmes to the students focusing on quality component. He lauded the organisers of the expo and said the turnover of the visiting students had been amazing.
Minhaj University’s Director Marketing, Communication and PR, Rabia Ali said her varsity, recognised by the HEC, focused on best teaching methodologies and offered conducive academic environment to the students.
Ismail Butt, Administrator at Sharif Trust, said the Trust had been offering education as well as health facilities to the masses. He said the expo was a good initiative to motivate the students as well as providing a platform to institutes to project themselves.
Preparation for Life (PFL) Regional Manager Mahsheed Mohiuddin said PFL was a British owned company representing around 160 foreign universities in Pakistan. He termed the participation by students quite active.
Rahat-ul-Ain, Director School of Governance of University of Management and Technology (UMT), said it was great to see keen interest showed by the visiting students in different programmes being offered by the UMT. He said over the years The News Education Expo had emerged as a great platform for universities as well as providing opportunity to students to directly interact with many institutes under one roof.
