NOWSHERA: The officials of the Ehtesab Commission, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Wednesday conducted yet another raid on the residence of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Liaqat Shabab.It was the third time in a week that the Ehtesab Commission officials raided the house of the PPP leader.The officials of the commission led by assistant director Abid Mahsud and police personnel raided the house of Liaqat Shabab in ACS Colony. Family sources said that the officials were told that the PPP leader was not at home, but they besieged the residence for seven hours. Later, the officials called in female cops.

13 terrorists killed in NWA air strikes
Five hideouts destroyed
PESHAWAR: Thirteen suspected terrorists were killed when fighter jets pounded several militant hideouts in Dattakhel area of North Waziristan Agency on Wednesday morning, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said. According to ISPR, five militant hideouts were also destroyed in the action. The fresh aerial strikes took place two days after a US drone strike in Shawal Valley killed at least five militants. Earlier on May 14, 15 terrorists, including some foreigners, were killed in the area ahead of Dattakhel in North Waziristan. Pakistan has been waging a large military operation in North Waziristan against local and foreign militants since June. The military says it has killed more than 2,000 militants and cleared most of the region.

Alleged militant arrested

PESHAWAR: Police during an action in Badaber arrested an alleged militant on Wednesday. Police said Amin Gul, a militant commander, was arrested during a raid by the police commandos. He was taken to an unknown place for an interrogation.

Pepco MD, GM, Lesco chief get notices

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Wednesday issued show-cause notices to Pepco MD, GM and Lesco chief for submitting an unsatisfactory reply about transfer of an executive engineer in violation of the court’s order.The petitioner engineer had obtained a stay order against his transfer from outside Lesco. However, he said, the respondents issued his transfer order. He then filed a contempt of court petition seeking action against the three respondents.The respondents submitted their replies on the matter, however, the court expressed dissatisfaction terming the replies vague. The court issued show cause notices to them seeking a justification of their act.

Court allows citizen to use bullet-proof vehicle

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday allowed a citizen for using a bullet-proof vehicle for his protection after the federal government delayed issuance of No-Objection Certificate (NOC) for more than one year. A division bench comprising Chief Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel and Mrs Justice Irshad Qaisar allowed an industrialist, Syed Shoukat Hayat, to use bullet-proof vehicle for his protection till next order of the court. The bench also issued notice to Ministry of Interior to submit reply and explain as why NOC was not being issued to the citizen in the case before the next hearing. The petitioner’s lawyer Shumail Ahmad Butt submitted that the petitioner was an industrialist and had been attacked by unknown persons several times.

YDF wants shifting of TB hospital away from Khairpur city

SUKKUR: Young Doctors Forum (YDF) demanded shifting of the Tuberculosis (TB) Hospital out of the premises of the General Hospital, Khairpur. An emergency meeting of the YDF, Khairpur was held here on Wednesday with its President Professor Dr Akhtar Husain Phul in the chair. Dr Phul said the YDF decided to ask the Sindh government to shift TB hospital out of the premises of General Hospital Khairpur, because there is every possibility that the TB virus will infect other patients. He said there was no such case in the country that TB hospital had been established within the premises of a general hospital. He said the patients carrying TB virus would be the cause of infecting others, therefore the TB hospital should be constructed out of the city. He said land for TB Hospital was acquired by the authorities near Mitho Mari near Khairpur Bypass but money matters were hindering the change.

Wapda employees reject privatisation plan

PESHAWAR: Members of All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union on Wednesday staged protest against proposed privitisation of the entity. Led by the union central chairman Gohar Taj, provincial chairman and others. The speakers said the government was privatising the Islamabad, Faisalabad and Lahore electricity supply companies. They said that profit-earning state entities were being sold out at a throwaway price on dictation of IMF. They asked the government not to privatise the Wapda, adding that the move would increase the tariff of the commodity and deprive hundreds of thousands of employees of their jobs.

Cop shot dead, body found in car

SUKKUR: A head constable was found dead inside his car in Sachal Colony, Larkana on Wednesday. Reports said police found bullet-riddled body of Head Constable (HC) Nazir Ahmad Kalhoro (41) inside his car (No ARG 899) along with a pistol in the jurisdiction of Sachal Police Station at Sachal Colony, Larkana at around 2:30pm. The body was shifted to CMC Hospital, Larkana. The body was handed over to heirs after medico legal formalities. Dr Saleem Sheikh told the media after the post-mortem that a bullet had hit the HC in the head and crossed the skull. SHO Sachal Police Station, Syed Imdad Shah doubted it was a murder case and said investigation and collection of evidences from crime scene was going on.

Blast kills TI volunteer

LANDIKOTAL: A volunteer of Tauheed-ul-Islam (TI) was killed in a landmine explosion in Kata Karin area of Landikotal tehsil in Khyber Agency, sources said on Wednesday. A few Tauheedul Islam volunteers were on their routine patrolling in the Kata Karin area when one of them stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED). As a result, Rahman Gul died on the spot. Soon after the explosion, dozens of other TI supporters rushed to the explosion site and cordoned off the area.

Militant killed in Mashkey
QUETTA: The Frontier Corps (FC) shot dead a militant in retaliation in Mashkey area of Balochistan on Wednesday. According to FC spokesman, the FC personnel were carrying out a search operation in the area after a tip off about a hideout and presence of militants there. One of militants opened fire on them from the hideout, which the FC personnel retaliated and a militant was killed.

Sarwar, Iranian consul general discuss regional situation

LAHORE: Former Punjab governor and Core Committee member of the PTI Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar met Iranian Consul General Muhammad Hussain Bani Asadi on Wednesday and discussed bilateral relations between Pakistan and Iran. Both the leaders also reviewed in detail the overall situation prevailing in the entire region. They also discussed progress on the Pakistan-Iran-Gas-Pipeline and other global issues. Sarwar said Pakistan was facing acute shortage of electricity, gas and other energy resources and the gas project was vital to overcome energy crises and for the prosperity of the country. He said the PTI wanted to further strengthen relations with the people of Iran. He said Pakistan rendered great sacrifices in the war on terror and extremism. The Iranian Consul General said relations between the two countries are improving. He said Iran would continue cooperation with Pakistan to overcome energy crises.

Court partially upholds sentence in acid throwing case

LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court Wednesday partially upheld sentence to a woman and her son convicted of throwing acid on a young woman. An anti-terrorism court on July 3, 2012 sentenced Nasreen Bano and her son Danish to a collective imprisonment of 34 years under different sections of law and Anti Terrorism Act. The convicts had thrown acid on their relative Sidra Yasmin in June 2011 following a family dispute. The victim had lost her eyes in the incident. Manga Mandi police had lodged the case. The bench upheld 20 years imprisonment of the convicts, however, quashed 14-year term handed down under section 7 of Anti Terrorism Act.

Solar energy system inaugurated at Peshawar park

PESHAWAR: Corps Commander Peshawar Lieutenant-General Hidayatur Rehman inaugurated solar energy system at the Defence Officers Colony Park here on Wednesday. Station commander Brigadier Khizer Sultan Raja and Executive Officer of Cantonment Saleem Hassan were also present on the occasion. A press release said the Cantonment Board had already installed the system on the Mall Road, Aman Chowk, Khalid bin Waleed Park and the park on the Shami Road.

Explosives recovered in Lakki city

LAKKI MARWAT: The police have recovered and defused a huge quantity of explosives in militancy-hit Shah Hassankhel village in the south of Lakki city on Wednesday. A police official told this correspondent that construction workers were busy in excavation at the Government Primary School at the village when they noticed the explosives. The labourers informed the school administration and then the matter was communicated to the area police, he said. Official said that heavy contingent of police along with commandos of elite force and anti-terror squad reached the school and besieged the area. He added that experts of bomb disposal unit were also called to the village and during digging the law enforcers recovered two plastic drums. “The drums contained 61 rocket launcher shells and 9 mortar shells,” the official revealed.
Man killed in Abbottabad clash

ABBOTTABAD: A man was killed and eight others were injured in a clash over a petty dispute between the residents of Sheikhul Bandi area and the shopkeepers of Jhugian on the Murree Road, police sources said. The sources said that nine people sustained bullets injuries in the exchange of fire. Panic gripped the city as the two groups clashed over a car parking dispute. A heavy contingent of police reached the spot and fired warning shots to control the situation. The injured were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital, wherefrom five of them were referred to the Ayub Teaching Hospital, where one Naeem Khan succumbed to his wounds. Meanwhile, hundreds of residents blocked the Murree Road in protest.

Swabi police recover weapons

SWABI: Just nine days before the local government elections, the district police on Wednesday recovered a big cache of weapons during a raid in the congested Maneri Bala area, an official said. DSP Fayyaz Khan said that on a tipoff, a special police party raided a house in Seendkhel area of Maneri Bala and recovered a huge cache of arms. The police also arrested one Said Bahadur from the spot and registered a case in the City Police Station. Fayyaz said the cache consisted of various kinds of rifles and guns along with magazines, rounds and other items.
