QUETTA: An improvised explosive device (IED) planted by the wall of a park in Kohlu exploded on Sunday. There was no report of any loss of life. According to the Levies Force officials, the IED blast partially damaged the wall. The Force rushed to the site and cordoned off the entire area to trace out the suspects, who had planted the IED.

Over 400 patients examined at FC medical camp in Quetta
QUETTA: Doctors examined over 400 patients including women and children in one-day free medical camp set up under the auspices of Frontier Corps Balochistan in Loralai, on Sunday.A spokesman for FC Balochistan said that doctors examined over 400 patients including 235 women, 90 men and 80 children at a free medical camp in Khost Post area of Loralai district.He said that FC would continue arranging free medical camps in different districts
of the province to provide health facilities to poor people.

Mobile jammers at Punjab prisons disrupt cellular services

LAHORE: Cellular services are adversely affected in the localities adjacent to high security prisons across Punjab, as mobile jammers have been installed by jail authorities across the province to curb mobile phone use within the jail premises. There are 32 prisons/jails in the Punjab, mostly situated in the center of populous areas with considerable high-teledensity. These jails were established initially in the suburbs of the city but now increasing populations and residential housing societies are surrounding them.

Two killed in Kabul suicide attack targeting foreign convoy
KABUL: A suicide car bomber struck a foreign convoy near Kabul airport, killing at least two people and wounding 18 others during the peak morning rush hour on Sunday, officials said. The attack comes three days after 14 people were killed in attack on a Kabul guesthouse that trapped dozens attending a concert and triggered hours-long standoff with Afghan forces. “A suicide bomber detonated his Toyota sedan targeting a foreign forces convoy,” Kabul police spokesman said.
LEA personnel shot dead in Quetta
QUETTA: Unidentified armed men shot dead an official of Levies Force in Gahi Khan Chowk area of the provincial capital, here on Sunday.Police said unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire at personnel of the Levies Force in Gahi Khan Chowk area, leaving him seriously injured. The injured succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital. The victim was identified as Khadim Hussain.

Woman commits suicide in Faisalabad
FAISALABAD: A woman committed suicide over a domestic issue in Sargodha Road police limits here on Sunday.Police said that Parveen Bibi of Hajveri Town swallowed poisonous pills after a quarrel with her in-laws over a domestic dispute. She was shifted to a hospital but she could not survive.

80 held in Peshawar search operations

PESHAWAR: Over 80 people were rounded up in continuous search and strike operations in various parts of the provincial capital during the last couple of days, officials said on Sunday. Search and strike operations were carried out in Saddar, Nauthia, Khyber Super Market, Gulberg, Hayatabad, Yakatoot, Kohat Road and other areas over the weekend, official said. The official said police all over the provincial capital have been put on high alert and officers are on road to monitor the situation. Reports said the cops were put on high alert after some serious threats.
CT scan machine purchased for LGH

LAHORE: Following the austerity policy of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the Lahore General Hospital’s administration has managed to save Rs 30 million while purchasing a latest CT scan machine. The saved money will be spent on patient welfare projects.PGMI & LGH Principal Prof Anjum Habib Vohra, in a press statement, said that purchase committee of the hospital, comprising of Dr Khalid Mahmoor, Dr Sami Qazi, Dr Tanveer Zubairi and AMS Dr Qaiser Parveen, under his chairmanship conducted long negotiations with a well-known company and finally struck a deal of purchasing a CT scan machine against Rs 30 million less than the market rate along with five years warranty. He said that the Neuro Emergency Department would be made functional in the building of the Punjab Institute of Neuro Sciences in a few days.
‘22 polio cases detected in Pakistan in 2015’

BAHAWALPUR: As many as 22 polio cases have been reported in Pakistan this year. It was stated by Mumtaz Khan, member of National Polio Committee of an international club, while addressing a monthly meeting of the club here on Sunday. He said a total of 23 polio cases were reported in the entire world this year. He urged for taking proper measures to get rid of this menace.

Protest staged against Pesco in Nowshera

NOWSHERA: Residents on Sunday staged a protest against officials of the Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (Pesco) and blocked the Nowshera-Mardan Road for traffic for five hours. The dwellers of the Risalpur and Gandheri staged the protest when electrical appliances of 33 houses and several transformers were damaged due to power fluctuation. Household items at two houses were also reduced to ashes when a fire erupted due to short-circuiting. The people made announcement through loudspeakers in mosques asking the residents to came out of their houses to stage a protest against the Pesco officials and damages incurred by the owners due to a fault in the power supply system. Later, Assistant Commissioner Abdul Majeed held talks with the protesters and assured them to repair the damaged transformers immediately and provide compensation to the owners whose household items and electrical appliances had been damaged.

3,500 security personnel to perform
election duty in Upper Dir

DIR: Over 3,500 security personnel will be deployed at 289 polling stations for the local government elections, an official said on Sunday. District Police Officer (DPO) Syed Israrudin Bacha told reporters that the security plan for the election had been finalised. Around 165 polling stations had been declared sensitive in the district, he added. The DPO said that 3,226 police personnel, including Quick Response Force (QRF) and regular and Special Police Force (SPF), would perform security duty during the elecion. He said DC Dr Imran Hamid Shaikh had committed to depute 300 Levies personnel to assist the police. The DPO said that the QRF and security forces teams would patrol different areas across the district on the polling day.

Journalist succumbs to injuries

NOWSHERA: A senior journalist, Naeem Wali, who was injured in a road accident, succumbed to his injuries in a hospital in Peshawar on Sunday, family sources said. Naeem Wali was on way to his office on his motorcycle when a truck hit him near Kareemi Board on the main road. He was critically injured and was shifted to the Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar where he breathed his last after remaining in coma. His body was shifted to Kohi Barmool village in Mardan district where he was laid to rest. A large number of people attended his funeral prayer. He was the bureau chief of daily ‘Subah’ at Nowshera and had been affiliated with journalism since long.

No casualty in Bajaur Agency blast

KHAR: There was no casualty in a blast in the Siddiqabad village in Bajaur Agency on Sunday evening, sources said. The sources said that unidentified persons had planted an explosive device in a pressure cooker near a house in Siddiqabad village, which went off in the evening. However, it caused no loss of life. Following the incident, personnel of the Levies Force reached the spot and defused another device planted in the surrounding area.

Three killed in Orakzai roof collapse

HANGU: Three persons, including two minor girls, were killed when a roof collapsed in Khosa Mela village in central Orakzai Agency on Sunday, sources said. The sources said that due to torrential rain and thunderstorm, the roof of the house of Qadeer Khan caved in. As a result, his wife, seven-year-old daughter and niece were killed on the spot. Following the incident, the locals rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies.

Worker injured in cylinder blast

Husnain Asif, a resident of Manthar Road, Sadiqabad, was playing when he fell into an open manhole and died on the spot. Meanwhile, the area people staged a demonstration against the Sadiqabad TMA. They demanded registration of a murder case against the TMO and other TMA staffers.

Three arrested for raping divorced woman in TT Singh

TOBA TEK SINGH: Gojra Sadr police on Sunday arrested three people on the charge of raping a divorced woman at Chak 244/GB. The woman had gone to the fields for taking fodder for her animals when Usman, Tanveer and Waqar came there and allegedly raped her. The accused also took her pictures to blackmail her. When contacted, DSP Atif Qureshi said that police have started investigation after registering a gang-rape case.

Three siblings drown in canal

BAHAWALPUR: Two orphan sister and brother drowned into a canal about 120km from here on Sunday. Eight-year-old Saira of Basti Hansala near Khan Bela, Rahimyar Khan, and her six-year-old brother Arslan were going to a seminary for learning the Holy Quran. They were crossing a temporary bridge when Arslan fell into the canal. His sister also jumped into the canal to rescue him but both drowned. On information, police reached the spot and recovered their bodies from the canal. Meanwhile, the area people staged a demonstration against the local MNA and MPA for their lack of interest to launch development projects in the underdeveloped area.

Two traffic cops among five booked

GUJRANWALA: Satellite Town police booked five people, including two traffic policemen, for creating law and order situation here on Sunday. Three brothers - Abdul Rehman, Haseebur Rehman and Nabeelur Rehman – were allegedly quarrelling with two vendors - Waris and Usman - over a minor issue outside the police station. Hearing noises, the police took them to the police station to settle the issue but Abdul Rehman and Haseebur Rehman, both traffic cops, allegedly misbehaved with police.

Three medical store owners held

LALAMUSA: City police on Sunday arrested three medical store owners for selling expired medicines. Those arrested are Irfanul Haq of Mohallah Karimpura, Umar Farooq and Muhammad Usman. A case has been registered. On Saturday night, Kharian Assistant Commissioner Afshan Rubab raided the three medical stores and sealed them as the owners were running them with unqualified staff. The owners were also selling expired and unregistered medicines.

Moneylender shot dead in Okara

OKARA: A moneylender was shot dead at Mattanwala village on Saturday night. Accused Riaz and Akram obtained some loan from Fida Hussain sometime ago. Later, Fida Hussain started demanding his money back from the accused persons. On the day of the incident, the accused along with their three accomplices called out Fida Hussain from his house and allegedly shot him dead. Haveli police have registered a case.
