Rs9.5m scam detected in examination dept of Shah Abdul Latif University

SUKKUR: Misappropriation of millions of rupees has been detected in examinations of the Shah Abdul Latif University being held in affiliated colleges, The News has learnt.
Sources said that in December 2014, external examinations of BA, BSC, MA, MSC, B.Com and M.Com were held in affiliated colleges of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur. There are some 64 colleges affiliated with the Shah Abdul Latif University. Sources said that some officials of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, were allegedly involved in embezzlement of Rs9.5 million through examination fees collected from students.
Sources said that when the record of attendance in all examination centres was verified with the fee collected, statement of several banks revealed a shortage of Rs9.5 million. Sources alleged the examination department had also issued the examination gate passes to candidates who had not submitted the examination fee in any bank.
An officer of the department detected the scam while scrutinising the record of attendance of students at examination centres and approached the vice chancellor of the Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, for a probe.
When The News contacted Controller Examination of the Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur Prof Asif Shah about the scam of Rs9.5 million, he said that no such scam had taken place in the examination wing of the university.
